Best Gig Ever,
By terry mellor (Perth) - See all my reviews

I wish I was there. I reckon anyone with even half a sense of humour could have walked into this gig off the street, not knowing any of the songs, and still have an excellent night. I loved this album the first time I heard it, and still do 17 years later!!

Peter and the Test Tube Babies were a British punk band that did the strange thing of releasing a live album as their debut record following a couple singles. Recorded at 3 different venues, it really captures the intensity of an early 80's punk gig, ripping roaring, violent, and very dangerous. You can feel the blood and sweat from the band and the audiance. Much like the vintage The Exploited's On Stage live bootleg album, its heavily raw and has that dirty, rough unpolished feel. No major label or radio station would ever touch this. P&TTB are still a somewhat forgotten band even in the punk pantheon, them along with groups like The Business, Chaos UK, The Exploited, The UK Subs, GBH were the heart of the genre, playing fast and extremely volatile rock n roll, taking the formula the Sex Pistols laid down and making it more raw and more dirty.
The album features some powerful renditions of cuts like Banned From The Pubs, Elvis Is Dead, Smash N Grab, Run Like Hell, Transvestite and Disco, as well as a cover of Leader Of The Gang. But the best cut here is Maniac, a true to it's name, listening to this song you really feel the danger of a real punk show in the 80's as it was. The genre is so commercial these days with Ramones t shirts in every mall store, it's forgotten how underground and unacceptable punk was in its time. This song brims with danger and these guys really make you think they could jump off the stage and hurt you as by the last 10 seconds the singer is literally foaming at the mouth. So if you're looking for the soundtrack to a mosh party or you want some real authentic skull crushing rock, this is a perfect addition to your collection, a classic punk gem.

If you had ever thought the Sex Pistols were the be all and end all of British Punk, you were way wrong!
Peter and the Test Tube babies are the real deal, not some stylized illusion of some promoter or Vivien Westwood clad pinheads! We never heard too little about those Sex Pistol Twerps, but the media didn't even bother with Peter and the Test Tube babies, even though they have THE most original and punky derived lyrics you'd ever likely too find!Moped Lads,Banned from the Pub,Intensive care,Up yer Bum to name only a few of these gems, which fortunately were recorded in their full on and uncompromising fashion of pissed off youth. This is FULLY SICK,and I would definately, highly recommend this, and would be in my personal Top 10 of all time records!
