Only a Death-Knower can die.--- And live again. Only a Death-Knower can return from death.--- And remember. Only a Death-Knower can tell us what he has seen.--- Not all care to listen. Torg, the Death-Knower wizard, is imprisoned in a horrifying pit bored into the solid rock of a frozen mountain. Jim Melvin's Death Wizard Chronicles crackle with nonstop action and serious literary ambition. He has succeeded in creating an entire universe of interlocking characters and creatures that will undoubtedly captivate fans of the fantasy genre. --Bob Andelman, Author of Will Eisner- A Spirited Life

About the Author

Jim Melvin, 49, was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., but grew up in St. Petersburg, Fla. He received his B.A. in Journalism and English from the University of South Florida. He now lives in South Carolina near the Blue Ridge Mountains, a pleasant setting for writing, to say the least. He is married and has five daughters and one ebony cat. Jim was an award-winning journalist at the St. Petersburg Times for twenty-five years and retired in 2004 to become a full-time novelist. At the Times, he specialized in science, nature, health and fitness, and he wrote about everything from childhood drowning to volcanoes. He also was a designer, editor, and supervisor. Jim is a student of Eastern philosophy and mindfulness meditation, both of which he weaves extensively into his work. Meditation helps to clear his mind for long bouts of writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Great Story!, March 13, 2008
This review is from: The Pit (The Death Wizard Chronicles, Book 1) (Paperback)
The Pit is a wonderful fantasy, rich in detail, Eastern spiritual philosophy, and little archaisms that enhance the imagery. Jim Melvin expresses this story in a well written, easy to read format, and does a great job of breathing life into Triken and its inhabitants. I think he accomplishes what every writer hopes for with a book like this: he left me wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well constructed fantasy, February 22, 2008
By
Jay L. Young (San Antonio, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Pit (The Death Wizard Chronicles, Book 1) (Paperback)
I picked up Jim Melvin's Death Wizard Chronicles based on the great premise and thoroughly enjoyed the novel. The characters and creatures pulled me into a mystical world unlike any I'd encountered in other Fantasy novels. Great debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars A plethora of nonstop action and suspense, September 26, 2007
This review is from: The Pit (The Death Wizard Chronicles, Book 1) (Paperback)
Jim Melvin promises action and suspense, and he delivers. The first title in his Death Wizard Chronicles is filled with incredible characters in a fantasy world that seems all too real and will leave your imagination running wild. There's plenty here - heroes, villains, sex, horror. It's wizardry for adults. A promising debut from a writer sure to be on the radar screen for a long time to come.
