Excellent Metal, Beautiful and Passionate Vocals, March 26, 2000
This review is from: Pitch Black Blues (Audio CD)
This is a style of heavy metal that is not classic metal like old Metallica/Black Sabbath, it isn't progressive metal like Yngwe Malmsteen or Stratovarius. Nor does it venture into the alternative style like newer Metallica albums.
There is not an ounce of false sadness or despair, this music is empowering not depressing. More akin to power metal than death metal. There is not an ounce of false cheer, this isn't N'Sync, it's true metal from the soul.
These are uninhibited songs about lust, not sickly-sweet love songs or tired suicidal songs.
The melody is simple (not flat) yet highly compelling, passionate and extremely well played. The lyrics are strange, but the kind of strange you see in an impressionist painting.
The style seems to have a folk-like feel to it that just grabs you. Metal fans, you definitely want this cd!
I just wish their earlier album "sweetbriers" was available somewhere too, oh well...
