An early collection of short plays by Margulies, well known for his "Sight Unseen" and "Dinner With Friends." The title one-act, "Pitching to the Star," is from 1990 and feels dated - although it pre-dates "Barton Fink," which shares a lot of the same New-York-playwright-screwed-over-in-Hollywood themes and characters. "L.A." is a vapid little bit of fluff about a man and woman - a successful actor and a semi-fan - who meet up in an L.A. bar. "Space" has some interesting moments, about being stoned, the strength of memory and recall, regret, and more herb. "Women in Motion" is a fast-paced, extremely polished piece of comedy about two friends traveling to the Caribbean together. The stand-out piece of the collection. "Zimmer" was my second-favorite, a one-man monologue that acts as a mini-bio of one Ira Zimmer - told through his own words, the words of his sister, grandmother, an actor/narrator, and others. Strongly written and conceived.

Overall, an uneven collection, but a good intro to Margulies' work.
