The Pitsco Laser-Cut Basswood T-Bot II Hydraulic Arm kit provides students in grades 6-12 a hands-on activity to build a hydraulic robot that demonstrates the scientific concepts of axes and levers, force, and Newton's laws of motion, and it includes basswood parts required to build the robot and syringes and tubing for implementing four hydraulic controls. It includes laser-cut basswood parts, syringes, wood dowels, screws, O-rings, nylon spacers, a plastic straw, clear plastic tubing, hook-and-loop fastener, a rubber band, a resealable plastic bag, and instructions. The T-Bot II illustrates how axes and levers work for students studying simple machines, and it demonstrates hydraulic power and simple robotics for students studying mechanical concepts. The kit reinforces engineering, technology, and math concepts as students build and test a hydraulic robot. The finished T-Bot II measures 12 inches at its tallest point. A hydraulic robot is typically used in an educational setting to demonstrate mechanics, robotics, and physics.

Construction requires a screwdriver, scissors, glue gun and glue slugs, and white glue (all sold separately). The T-Bot II can be mounted on the 34106 T-Bot II Base (sold separately).

Let's face it, every kid loves construction machinery, garbage trucks, fork lifts etc.
Explaining how hydraulics work can be daunting.
This really does a great job.
The only downside is:
-assembly will take time
- yes, you will have buy food coloring, Elmer's glue and a frickn hot-cold glue gun (essential) that you may only use once
But for the curious it is very very very cool once it's assembled

Buyer's tip:
Find a flat plate (of what ever material that works and is heavy enough) to attach to the final assembly (Velcro is included in the kit)
The hydraulic arm has to be anchored to something or weighted down with something, otherwise it won't stay upright.
We initially used one or 2 ceramic coasters that were lying around the house to initially weigh the base down.

I bought this for my 14 year old daughter who is very crafty and likes doing projects. It took her a while to assemble but the end result was so cool!! The arm really does move and she can pick up things. It's not motorized in anyway. She amazed herself and her friends. Now everyone wants one!

This was a very cool project to build. Although the parts arrived disconnect from board from which it was cut, it was fairly easy to assemble. I set some parts using a glue gun which made for a more solid setup.
