5.0 out of 5 stars WITHOUT A DOUBT, #1 OF ALL 72...B SIDE IS UNBELIEVABLE, August 18, 2002

I'll keep it short because these get boring-- i own all 72 shows, this is the best of all of'em.... no huge sound problems (which happens on most shows, unfortunately).... the version of I Got Id is improved, a nice change (the only version of the song i'll listen to), and unbelievably strong. Stone's Mankind is great, and the version of Insignificance is probably the best they've done live. Porch has a longer than usual instrumental bridge, with Eddie getting the crowd involved, and a strong Ledbetter close. Yeah, every review says each show is the best, and i did not see this show, only the Philly shows, but this is the only show of the 72 that never leaves my CD changer. Agree?

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Set of US Tour - Pittsburgh Last Night of First Leg, February 28, 2001
This review is from: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - September 5, 2000 (Audio CD)
With 48 double cds from the European and first leg of the American tour. This is by far one of the best sets. It is the last night of the first leg of the US Tour and the Band did not let the crowd down at all. If you plan on getting any of the live cds get this one It is guaranteed to please with plenty of old, new and rare tracks.

But any time you have a show that is the first or last in a tour you are guaranteed for a few surprises this delivers plenty.

The Pittsburgh set includes Rare tracks such as Wash & Crazy Mary and culminates with the encore of The Who's Classic Baba O'Riley. Also the interlude in Daughter contains a rare cover of Sonic Youths "Bull in the Heather" Listen to Stone gossards vocals on the rarely played live "Mankind". I have been lucky enough to be a member of the ten club and have had this Cd for almost a month and it never gets old. With so many live shows to choose from Choose this ine you won't go wrong!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' the Steel Workers, October 23, 2001
This review is from: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - September 5, 2000 (Audio CD)
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This is an especially energetic show to close the second leg of Pearl Jam's mammoth 2000 world tour. You might expect that they would just go through the motions with this gig, as if they couldn't wait to get finished and go home to a few weeks of R&R. But that is not the case in Pittsburgh, as the band planned to go out with a bang, and they are propelled into greater excitement by the enthusiastic crowd. This is an especially rocking show, and is lower on ballads than the average gig. The fact that the show opens with "Even Flow" should tell you something (in fact, this is the only show in the series to start off with this classic track). Highlights include an extra gritty take on "I Got Shit," a rumbling yet intricate "In My Tree," Stone Gossard's showcase "Mankind" (which proves conclusively why he isn't PJ's lead vocalist, although it's still a cool song), and better than average renditions of the rockers "Last Exit" and "Hail Hail." The most enjoyable moment of this show is when Eddie Vedder invites a woman with a white umbrella to the stage. They had noticed her before, and it turns out that she had been to over 100 PJ shows. In the "Touring Band" DVD, you'll see that her umbrella had a request for the long-lost B-side "Wash" scrawled on it, and in her honor the band performed this song for the only time in the entire tour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down the best show from the first leg!! A Classic!, February 27, 2001

The tone for this show is set from the opening chords of the rare opener 'Even Flow'. McCready's solo is frenetic.

Parts of this show will undoubtedly end up on the tour DVD (April release). This was the third show I attended on the first leg and the only one of those where the crowd was notified that the show was being filmed.

Highlights from the first disc are 'Light Years' and 'daughter' which features Eddie leaving the stage during the song's extended jam ending to fetch lyrics for the tag - Sonic Youth's 'Bull in Heather'. The song had not been tagged for years before this show. Another rarity.

The second disc is chocked full of great stuff from the rarely played 'Mankind' to 'Crazy Mary,' the band trying to remember the chords to 'I Got You' which hasn't been played since Verona on the European leg and the closing sing-a-long of 'Baba' played with the remaining members of Sonic Youth.

The crowning acheivement of this show is 'Wash' which includes Eddie inviting a girl from the lawn carrying an umbrella up on stage. After talking to the girl Eddie realizes that she has been to over 100 shows and has been carrying this umbrella with WASH written on it. He sits her on the stage as the band plays the song which hasn't been on a setlist since the early days of the band and tells the crowd that this is the last time they will do something like this.

This is why Pearl Jam is the best live band in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites., April 17, 2002

Of the US series.. this ranks near the top of the list. This underated show deserves the ape/man logo marking it as a special show. There is an energy to this show that is hard to explain. Animal for instance friggin rocks harder than just about any version I have heard (I currently own 10 europe/us shows). Betterman may not have the entire 'Save it for Later' refrain, but it is performed with more enthusiasm than the versions that do contain the entire version. The version of daughter is my favorite of the US shows. Evenflow is lightning and Elderly Woman will give you goosebumps with a nice mix of the audience singing along. Wash seals this as a must have CD! I can't put my finger on exactly why... but this the US show I reach for the most when I need a live fix.

5.0 out of 5 stars PIttsburgh Rocks, December 20, 2001

A great way to memorialize a fantastic show. The album DOES capture the energy of the evening. I was sixth row and this disc made me feel as if I had made it to the stage. It's a jammin' set list with a couple of rarities - Wash, Leatherman - it's just all too much. These guys came to rock and that's exactly what they did.
If you've never been to one of their shows this disc will turn you into a liar. You'll swear you were there.
Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pearl Jam- Wasted in PA, March 2, 2001

The entire series of bootlegs from the 2000 US tour are unbelievable! This rates among the top 5 of these discs for the simple fact that it includes terrific versions of Pearl Jam staple covers, "I Got You", by the Split Enz, and "Baba O'Riley", by the Who, not to mention the ever-so-rare in concert, "Wash." This is a must-have for serious Pearl Jam fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full Of Energy, May 2, 2007
This review is from: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - September 5, 2000 (Audio CD)
This is definitely one of the shows with the most energy from the bands 2000 tour. It was the last show of that particular part of the tour. You would think the band would sound tired and worn out, but they dont. They put on a show full of great songs that are played very well. The show opens up with a killer version of Even Flow. It may be the best version of the song Ive ever heard and I own at least 70-80 PJ cds! The show hardly stops rocking after that. Theres also incredible versions of harder songs like Hail Hail, Animal, Go, and Once. The band only makes a few flub ups and they are very forgivable. There are only 3 in total actually. One being an awful version of Light Years were Ed messes up the lyrics in the first verse and stops himself; he then fixes his mistake. Theres one little guitar screw up in Breakerfall. One of the guitars start to fade in and out, pretty much like cutting out right at the beginning of the song. The other lyrical mistakes take place in Crazy Mary. I believe that was due to Eddie being more concerned about the woman with the umbrella coming onstage. So, he kinda messes up. When that woman gets onstage and requests a song she really picked a good one. Wash. The only time it was played during the whole tour. Its a pretty good version as well. Not exactly like the studio take, but still is played with great energy. This was one of my first PJ bootlegs to buy. Im glad it was. Its truly a great performance and is much better than the Philadelphia shows and the Seattle ones as well. If anyone is still after these shows for some reason, try your hardest to get this. I can promise you wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Final Blast on the First Leg, August 5, 2005
By
PJM "PJM" (Knoxville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - September 5, 2000 (Audio CD)
This final show on the first leg of the 2000 American Tour is now out of print, and fairly pricey if you happen to stumble across it. It's a shame, because it is a great performance, only a very small notch below the Washington D.C. show from the same leg of the tour. The previous show in Phildelphia was reportedly somewhat shakey, and Pearl Jam seems on a mission to redeem itself here with a great set list (opening with "Even Flow"!) and a blazing performance. If you can find this show, pay the premium. It's worth every penny.
