5.0 out of 5 stars A random buy, and I'm glad!
So I saw this sitting around at work, and I just decided to pick it up. It looked interesting, and I had heard the song "Radio", and I liked it, but wasn't like totally all over it.

Let's just say that "Radio" is not the best song on the CD. It's one of the songs I skip over when listening to the others.

The OTHER songs on this album...

3.0 out of 5 stars for 80s throwback, its >ok<
I heard a track on XM and liked it so much that I bought it. But overall, the album didnt grab me. I dont know if its because it wasnt catchy enough or didnt have the right overall sound. Probably both. It just wasnt for me. They claim to not have 80s influences like Simple Minds, and I believe them. But the similarities are there. I wished it were better.

The OTHER songs on this album?

True gems. Really awesome and his voice is really good. I like the way it sounds, and it fits the music well.

My favorite tracks have to be "We're On Drugs" and "CTWYL". Mind-blowing lyrics, and the music, with strings and everything is just simply amazing. I never expected something this great from just a random CD.

Highly reccomended.

Oh...it's rock. Kinda like Kasabian, has that old feel to it, but it's gooooood stuff. Really.

I picked up this album based on an interview I read with the band (shout out to Syl Tang of HipGuide's HipBites). I must say it's a VERY solid album and I like more songs the more I listen. The album is heavily influenced, not only by 80's groups, but I also hear some Hooverphonic, The Verve and Seal in some of the tracks as well. My favorite tracks are 2,3, 4, 6, 9 and 14. Just great lyrics and/or hooks. I highly recommend it! Pick it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!, March 4, 2005
This review is from: Pitty Sing (Audio CD)
Pitty Sing makes gorgeous, 80s inspired pop-rock that sounds like it should be playing during the final kiss scene of a John Hughes movie. Listening to this record just makes me happy. The production is really textured and cool and the songs are perfectly written and catchy as hell. I have to agree with the other reviewers comparisons. If you like The Smiths, The Cure, Joy Division or any britpop you will probably be all over this. A nearly perfect album that I highly reccomend to anyone...

5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL!, February 20, 2005
This review is from: Pitty Sing (Audio CD)
As a long time fan of a Suede and Britpop, it's always great to hear music like this. Dynamic and beautiful and just really really good hooks. Just a beautiful album, I love the singer's voice too.

I would recommend this if you like The Cure, Pulp, The Smith/Morrissey (and who doesn't these days?), and Suede. I hope these guys tour w/ Coldplay, it'd be my dream show.

5.0 out of 5 stars It would do you good...to buy this album!, April 18, 2005

Last year, I picked up a copy of The Killers 'Hot Fuss', and was very impressed with the sound the New York band afforded to it's listeners. Not only was it fresh and vibrant with it's colorful style, but it lay heavily in the realm of the reviving New Wave sound of music. It wasn't a surprise when New York spit out another group which carried the same, highly-energized, New Wavish sound which not only topped The Killers debut album, in my opinion, but succeeded in helping the doors be thrown wide open for the present onslaught of New Wave-based bands.

Pitty Sing work strongly together, blending sounds so successfully, that it's a 'pitty' they didn't hit the scene earlier. But, don't fret, with the music they present in their debut album, Pitty Sing are more than deserving of the main-stay which lies ahead of them.

As for lyrics, each song has it's own raw touch to it, dishing out a helping of forelorness, alongside touches of anger and dispute with every-day life. Check out "Telephone", "Motherlover" and "Radio" for ever-so-catchy glimpses into the lyricism and musicianship of Pitty Sing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Miss This CD; It's The Beginning of a Huge Band, January 29, 2005
This review is from: Pitty Sing (Audio CD)
I've been following these guys for about a year and half now (prior to them having even released a demo/EP) from the far removed location of Houston (they're based in Boston) and I have to say I am elated they finally released a full length album and are on their way to getting the recognition they deserve. While I must say some of the earlier versions of some of these songs are much more fond to me than the more polished/produced versions you'll find on their full length release here, this release is still going into my collection; they are equally brilliant. For a fun comparison, web search for their producer's website (Producer Nick) and preview some of the demo tracks that led to this album's creation. They pack quite a bit more of an "retro 80's club" feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little surprising, May 25, 2005
This review is from: Pitty Sing (Audio CD)
My roommate picked this CD up before I had heard anything by them. It was pretty decent but nothing stood out. Then he put it on in the car the other day, and I was captivated.

Now some of these songs just have too many "I'm sad and it's the 80's" sounds to them. Their single, for instance, makes me cringe sometimes. But there are amazingly wonderful gems on this disc. "CTWYL", or "Chante The Way You Live", starts out with a string sound that grips my throat and heart and forces me to listen. The lyrics are stunning, and then I think to myself, "Perhaps this band deserves more credit?"

That's what you'll be thinking too, the moment Pitty Sing enters your life.

4.0 out of 5 stars great band and an amazing CD, January 26, 2005

I'm only in my second lisen since buying the CD at their show in Philly last night. I'm sure I'll want to change my rating to 5 stars once it passes the test of repeated listens.

I only hope their popularity builds slowly so I get a few more chances to see them play in small venues. If you like the music, do not pass up a chance to see them play live. It's not as heavily produced as the CD, but easily one of the best live sets for me in recent memory.

Best new band I've heard in a long time. Intelligent, lyrical, powerful music from start to finish. Lot of hooks without being candy. You will be satisfied.

Thank God. Until today, I haven't come across a CD to praise since my last review in Feb (and not for lack of trying). I'm already in LOVE with this CD in 3 days. No need to compare Pitty Sing to bands that they weren't old enough to be influenced by, although I do hear hints of the music I loved in the 80's. NOTHING is being re-hashed here. It's completely unique, contemporary and refreshing. Thank you Paul Holmes for your incredible voice & for sculpting this work of art that I will appreciate for a long time to come. LOVE IT!
