Product Description

From the Manufacturer

From the Manufacturer Say Hello to a New Kind of Digital Frame

The Pix-Star Webframe is a home device ahead of its time. It is the only digital photo frame to receive and send emails without a monthly fee. It displays beautiful 600 x 800 resolution photos on an 8-inch screen, but in addition to this, it serves as a Wi-Fi solution to help manage your home's energy consumption.

No more sitting at the computer and waiting for large emails to load the pictures your friend emailed you, see them instantly with the Pix-Star Webframe.

No more connecting your frame to your computer every time you want to update the pictures on it.

All this with NO COMPUTER OR ANY OTHER DEVICE NEEDED!

Configuring the Wi-Fi connection with a Pix-Star Webframe is quick and simple and can be done using a few buttons on the compact remote control. Switch on the frame and make sure the network you want to connect to is reachable from your location. You will need to know the configuration of the Wi-Fi including the name of the network (SSID), the type of encryption (None, WEP, WPA) and the key if there is encryption.

Register your frame in a few minutes by visiting www.pix-star.com then enter the product ID, choose a password, a personalized email address and you are ready to send, receive, share and enjoy pictures on your Webframe.

Each Pix-Star Webframe has its own personal email address that you choose when you register the product. Anyone who has this email address can send pictures directly to your frame as an email attachment. Worried about spam or unwanted pictures coming to your inbox? Pix-Star is the only Wi-Fi frame with a built in spam blocker so you are protected from unsolicited pictures.

Photo emails can be a maximum of 18MB total. There is no limit to the number of pictures that can be attached in one email but try to limit it to 30 pictures. The slideshow transitions, time display per slide, and brightness can be customized in the frame's menu.

By default, Pix-Star displays the pictures on its 2GB internal memory but it can also display online albums from Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, Windows Live, Smugmug, Photobucket, Shutterfly, MobileMe, and more. All you will need to change is the "source" of the pictures, which can be done in the frame's menu.

At the touch of a button on its well-designed remote control, the Webframe displays weather forecasts of the cities of your choice. Your preferred cities or countries can be selected from your dedicated account on www.pix-star.com. From this online account you can also program your favorite Web Radio Stations or audio streams to play directly from your Webframe, in addition to several personalized account settings all available on www.pix-star.com.

As soon as your pictures are received on your Webframe (via email, SD card, USB, Bluetooth, etc.) they will automatically be resized into an 800 x 600 format to fit perfectly in the screen, with an unchanged high quality display. The LCD screen will reflect your best shots in its 4:3 aspect ratio and photos will be rotated to their proper orientation. A sound (optional) informs you when a new Photo is received and an indication is displayed on the screen

You can instantly share your photos for free with your friends and family, who appear in your contact lists. Customize your contact lists directly on your frame or from your account at www.pix-star.com. Send pictures to the people of your choice to their own Webframe, or to any other email address you want, so they can see what you see. Bluetooth compatibility allows you to upload a photo from a cell phone, no emailing required. Even though this frame has a 2GB internal memory and holds up to 10,000 pictures you still have the option of inserting a SD or USB flash memory card in the back to present a slideshow of those photos.

With a power consumption of only 5W. Moreover, thanks to its Eco-mode feature, you don't have to unplug your Webframe before going to sleep and worry about wasting energy. From your account on www.pix-star.com you can easily schedule the times when your Webframe will automatically turn on and off. Email will still be received even when your Webframe is off for the night.

Spending Christmas apart this year? Your brother and sister in Vermont can send you pictures of their kids opening gifts directly to your Webframe in real time; you will see the photo within 20 seconds MAX! Then you can forward that picture to your mom and dad across town directly from your Webframe to theirs!

Connecting with distant friends and family through the magic of pictures has never been easier or faster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great frame and fantastic service, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Pix-Star PXT8W002 8-Inch FotoConnect Digital Photo Frame with Wi-Fi (Electronics)
I bought this frame a couple weeks ago and set it up at my parent's house last week. I had no problems at all with getting it connected to the internet, setup was a breeze. My father has a Picasa account and had the frame displaying pictures from his web album in short order. We signed up for an email address on the Pix-Star website and my sister sent a pic from her cell, less than a minute later the frame dinged, my Mom said "This is going to be fun", and pushed a button on the remote and the picture shows up on the frame. All this happened within 20 minutes of opening the box!

Now for a comment about the service. A little later that day I tried sending a pic from my cell phone (Verizon) and it never showed up... I tried again the next day and copied my yahoo email account along with the frame and again a no show at the frame but I did receive it at my yahoo account. So, I sent a help request to Pix-Star explaining the problem and expected not much, based on previous experience with other company's customer service. However, with Pix-Star, I received an email reply that evening asking me to send a pic from my Verizon phone to their email address. A day later the problem is resolved, no generic 'maybe in the next firmware update' or 'Thanks for your feedback' reply, they just fixed the problem! Fantastic!

So, needless to say, I'm very happy with this frame so far, and expect it will provide much entertainment for my family for years to come!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Frame! Seriously!, September 8, 2009
This review is from: Pix-Star PXT8W002 8-Inch FotoConnect Digital Photo Frame with Wi-Fi (Electronics)
I am an at-home mom with 3 kids-if I am writing a review- you know it must be good! I am not a big tech person or into the newest gadgets or gizmos, but 2 of my friends have this frame and after seeing it with titled photos and radio- on all the time- I knew my house could really use one!!

I set it up in my kitchen office area where the kids could see the photos of themselves and I could hear the radio! We are always in the kitchen it seems and we are always receiving a photo from friends, aunts, or grandparents. When I am on a trip with the kids, I email photos to my friends and family on my phone, and I put in ironic and ridiculous titles. It really is fun!

I am always intimidating when I buy a new device, and worried that I won't be able to figure it out and will spend hours on the phone with support. I usually have my husband do it for me. NOT THIS TIME! I actually took it out and plugged it in and used the buttons on the frame itself(I guess you can do it with the remote too, my girlfriend told me) it found our wi-fi right away and was on line! I sent a photo off my phone just to be sure and it made a sound and there it is!

I never thought I would use it as much as I have, and have so much fun! Beware- some people think it is funny to send some "inappropriate pictures"!

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than the rest, but..., December 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pix-Star PXT8W002 8-Inch FotoConnect Digital Photo Frame with Wi-Fi (Electronics)
The Scoop: If the in-laws, parents or grandparents have no hope of working email, computers, or anything digital. If you want to be able to upload pictures directly to their picture frame, then this is the one and only item in the whole world that will do it.

How I use it: I set up a photo album on an online service called www.shutrerfly.com and have the photo frame synchronize to that. All I have to do is upload to shutterfly and they get the pictures on their frame.

Sounds easy? Yes it does! I bought the frame, configured it and then sent it to them. All they had to do was plug it in and connect the Internet.

Now for the CONS:
It has a lousy wireless card in it. I eventually had to have them hard-wire the frame to get it to work because the frame would randomly go from having 5 of 5 bars to zero bars. Every laptop in the house had solid signal, but the frame had issues.

Pros:
All their services are free - no fees - ever - for anything
Supports Framechannel, like all the rest of the wireless frames around, but adds the following
Connects to many photo services directly like Flicker, Shutterfly, SmugMug, Picasa, and a whole lot more
It has Internet Radio. OK, yeah, this seems pointless on a picture frame, but it was kind of nice to have the frame play their favorite radio station, KOIT from California, when the in-laws lived in a small mountain town in Colorado.
It can be programmed to turn on/off at specific times

I am giving this a three because of the lousy wireless card in it. If it had a decent wireless card in it, I would give this a 5.
