5.0 out of 5 stars Designed with the collector in mind, October 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Pixar Treasures (Hardcover)
Length:: 0:56 Mins

The Pixar Treasures is finally out after a long delay. I had some doubts about the book because it's pricey and has only 64 pages. But once you flip through the pages, you'll understand why it cost so much.

The book comes with a slipcase and it's designed like a scrapbook. It tells the story of Pixar complete with loads of pictures. There are 28 chapters covering the history, the making of various films, the people, their ideas and other interesting stuff.

The stories will feel familiar if you have the other book To Infinity and Beyond!: The Story of Pixar Animation Studios -- still my favourite Pixar book. The Pixar Treasures presents a very condensed version of the whole Pixar story with the short 2-page chapters. However, this book has content up to the recent Toy Story 3, which means it also covers Ratatouille, Up and WALL-E, which aren't in To Infinity and Beyond!. The stories, though familiar, are still inspiring to read. They are short and will definitely leave you wanting more.

The highlight of the book are the pullout replicas of memorabilia, artwork and photos. Many of the pictures are never-before-seen art and photos. That's a lot of new content not published elsewhere in their other art books. There are lots of things you can pull out or pull. You'll see items like the Disney's Visitor Pass (ca. 1980), Presto poster, an animation flip-book, a (fake) newspaper front-page with Luigini's story, a few attached booklets and other goodies.

This book is clearly designed with the collector in mind. It is beautiful and inspiring to read.

Highly recommended to Pixar fans.

I hope other animation studios also come up with their own treasure books.

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant collectors piece., October 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Pixar Treasures (Hardcover)
This book is an instant collectors piece for all Pixar fans. It's designed like a scrapbook; including from photos, letters, brochures, comic strips, sketches, all together telling the story of Pixar since de begging, all the way to "UP" and part of the process of "Toy Story 3". Fun to explore replicas of graphic material attached in the pages. The book comes inside a hard cardboard case with the cover printed on.

As a fan of PIXAR and a long-time Disney fan, I was so pleased when Disney bought PIXAR Studios. This book is a combination of the best of both those production companies! The illustrations are, naturally, a fantastic visual feast and the overall presentation is superb. Whether you're a big kid like me or know a deserving new generation fan this book is a must have. I still have to sit down and work my way from cover to cover to check out all the special inclusions and inserts as I was so impressed when I first flicked through I didn't want to rush my appreciation. This book will provide me with plenty of entertainment for a long while yet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a pixar lover!, May 7, 2011
This review is from: The Pixar Treasures (Hardcover)
This book is great! This book is in a scrapbook format with bright pages and insets along with many pull outs. I love this book and know you will too.

Pros:
Multiple pull outs

good size

has many never before seen photos

Cons:
pages are a tiny bit warped but i believe its because the pull outs are glued in but it's just something I did notice.

Overall this is a great book and it will be treasured.

This book is amazing with it's scrapbook style, company history, and fun inserts along the way that show you the art and process of animation at Pixar studios. While the list price is a bit high, this amazon price is awesome. If you love Pixar...get this amazing Book!

Pixarpedia A complete guide to the World of Pixar...and beyond

Pixarpedia I did not know what to expect but I knew that DK books are written very well and this is no exception. It is hard to believe that Toy Story 3 will be in the theater next year. I still remember when the first Toy Story came out and was surprised to see the graphics and the good story that went with it.
This book is not about the process of making the films but instead shows the many different characters in each movie. My son Stephen pointed out that in the movie Cars, Doc Hudson license plate was HH51MD which means Hudson Hawk 1951 and Medical Doctor.
What makes Pixar movies great is the story that goes along with the animation. You can have the best animation in the world but if the story is not appealing no one will watch it.
Pixarpedia gives us a complete listing and description of the movies. I am sure both children and adults will enjoy this coffee table book. I am sure looking at the book will make you bring your favorite Pixar movies
