5.0 out of 5 stars It Works
It does work. Other AM/FM antennas like Terk and others do not work. My home is in a dead zone for both AM and FM. For some reason, cheap portable radios work and so does the car, but my expensive home stereo receivers only catch one FM and ZERO AM stations. I bought a Terk antenna...didn't work. AAUGH! I need my sports radio. Need to listen to Hawaii football! Go...

1.0 out of 5 stars "best ever" AM/FM antenna
Having a workshop below ground level, trying to listen to radio while I worked is an exercise in frustration. I was limited to maybe two very close (5 miles distant)FM stations, and no AM due to static and hum from fluorescent lights. Not wanting to enter into a long term satellite radio contract, I bought this antenna, mounted on the peak of my roof, and hooked it into a...

As a last resort, I bought this and it worked. I still don't get all the local radio stations, but now I get 6 FM stations and several AM stations...best of all I can now listen to sports radio on my home stereo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent FM HD Radio Antenna, January 27, 2009

I recently purchased a Polk I-Sonic HD Radio. Because of my property, tons of trees, I was having trouble picking up a consistent HD signal. I tried at least four different indoor antennas with little to no improvement. I then went to the AM / FM / HD Radio Outdoor Antenna (Model AFHD-4). It was extremely easy to install and now I pick up all FM HD stations in my area, with a solid signal. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was that it talks about also improving the AM band and that was not true in my case. However, that is not what I wanted it for, I strictly purchased it for the FM band and it works great!!

Having a workshop below ground level, trying to listen to radio while I worked is an exercise in frustration. I was limited to maybe two very close (5 miles distant)FM stations, and no AM due to static and hum from fluorescent lights. Not wanting to enter into a long term satellite radio contract, I bought this antenna, mounted on the peak of my roof, and hooked it into a Sony receiver with quad-shielded coax. I live high on the edge of a river valley, so I thought that reception shouldn't be a problem and I wanted a small footprint, as opposed to using a big TV type antenna. I hooked it all up and compared it to the Sony-supplied antennas. Okay, no more static and hum on the AM band. Number of stations received was about 25% better than the Sony antennas, but I still can't get stations I want (either AM or FM) that are less than 15 miles away. The Sony antennas were free with the receiver, and I've got over $150 tied up in this turkey (antenna, roof mount, coax, and parts) with negligible gain in performance. If I can find an old TV mast type antenna I may try it just for comparison's sake, since I already have all the coax and stuff anyway, or end up with XM or Sirius satellite radio. I may try to return it but I think I've had it too long, so I probably will have to eat it. Bottom line: if it's the "best ever" antenna, your situation is hopeless. Over priced and severely over rated. Save your money and forget about this antenna.

5.0 out of 5 stars WORKS GREAT, December 10, 2009

THE ANTENNA WORKS FANTASTIC. DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND IT. WHEN I INSTALLED IT, THE THREADED STUD THE COAX CABLE SCREWS ONTO WAS LOOSE. IN MY INFINITELY WISDOM, I DISMANTLED IT TO TIGHTEN IT. RECEPTION WAS POOR WHEN INSTALLED. BRIAN AT PIXEL SAID I BROKE IT. I RETURNED THE UNIT AND BRIAN SENT A NEW REPLACEMENT. THE STUD WAS STILL LOOSE BUT I DIDN'T MESS WITH IT. AS STATED ABOVE, WORKS GREAT.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Well, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Pixel Technologies AFHD-4 AM / FM & HD Radio Antenna (Electronics)
This is a good quality product that works as advertised. I've installed serveral, some stand alones, some as part of Pixel's AM/FM/XM antenna kit. If you follow the instuctions, understand what makes for good reception placement and generally know what you are doing, it's a good product. It is not, however, magic. Nor is it an amplified antenna. If you don't follow the instructions or don't place the antenna properly or don't have any signal to start with, this won't help.

My only minus is for the price. Seems a little high for a passive antenna.

2.0 out of 5 stars AM/FM Radio Reception, January 1, 2011
By
Home Handy Man (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews
I installed AFHD-4 in 3rd floor attic with 100 feet of RG6 quad shield as per the instructions. Our house is located in Houston, it has the metal sheath roof decking and stucco (with galvanized lathe) so reception in our house is a challenge but I did locate the antenna in front of the attic window. FM reception was good (not great) and AM reception was not great (no stations "Tuned" as per my NAD receiver). I also ordered a $40 TERK Advantage AM antenna. The fine tuning feature on the TERK made all the difference. So I'm leaving the AFHD-4 in the attic for the FM and leaving the TERK next to my stereo on the first floor. The only downside of the TERK is you have to fine tune each station if you change the station on the stereo but that is a small inconvience for the ability to get "Tuned" stations.
