so f'n brilliant!,
This review is from: The Pixies - Club Date: Live at the Paradise in Boston (DVD)
They're jovial and chatty fun as there set begins, and it's great to see and listen to. There "been all around the world" is new and brilliant. Then they lay into the heavy meat of there songs, and unload with full force. I loved that they played "sad punk." They were really "on" and got deep into it, this night. They prove themselves to be America's best and most interesting band, right here. This is the best of there three concert dvd's. It's wild to see them in the bonus 1986 concert (on bad tape) looking so young, yet sounding so good. A real treat. Pixies ecstacy. If you're into good music, get this.

Very good DVD for all Pixies fans - the gig is small thus provides a nice intermit setting and the crowd are good (is that Perry Farrell in the crowd?) - anyway buy this if you are a "real" fan of Bostons best band ever! LONG LIVE THE PIXIES !!

Club Date is an interesting and entertaining film from a warm up show prior to their reunion tour in 2004. The picture and sound quality is surprisingly good for a show like this and is very watchable. If you are expecting a polished concert tour quality show you might not like this but I liked it all the more for it's imperfections. You see more about of the human element in the band through their stumbles and miscues. We always get to see movies made from well executed concert footage, it is fun to see a band before they are up to full speed.

Great DTS sound with the reg Dolbly Surround. Fine video.
The band sounds great in the Paradise. Best to have a small venue for a Pixies concert. Good set list. Begins with Charles on acoustic with the band playing "LA LA Love You" then after "Where's My Mind" he switches to electric and blasts into "Gouge Away". Cool banter on stage. Good crowd. Just a little disturbing to see a woman dancing in a drunken haze downing beers one after another. Awesome concert.

Pass , The live concert in Boston feels forced, it just does not work for me. Even the great Kim Deal seems to be drifting along.
The good news is no matter how middle of the road this DVD is ,nothing can detract from the brilliant music the pixes have given us. This DVD is strictly for those who feel they must have everything by the Pixies. For the rest of us, just buy the Pixes by the pixes DVD , it is the best.

Bang for the buck,
This review is from: The Pixies - Club Date: Live at the Paradise in Boston (DVD)
This is a classic concert film. Nothing too new here.
it is the PIXIES and that should be enough for you. Find out how they sound in a "Dream Scenario" (ie-> small intimate club).

I saw the Dandy's at the Paradise a while back. I would have loved to see the Pixies there. The DVD is great; video and audio is just right. I highly recommend it to any Pixie fan.
