Good hardware, bad firmware,
By
This review is from: Piximodo Reflection 15M 15-Inch Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
I was given this frame and am happy with the hardware. The picture is sharp and bright, it has several inputs, it comes with a remote as well as menu navigation buttons on the side of the frame, and it has a removable wall mounting bracket. However, the firmware (internal software) leaves a lot to be desired. There is no timer to make it turn on and off at certain times of the day-either you turn it on and off manually or add an external timer. There is no random play mode, so pictures always display in the same order from the beginning of the folder unless you manually select the starting picture. It automatically plays a slideshow of photos in the root folder of your memory card, but you can only store 256 files in the root. Saving photos to a subfolder fixes that, but you have to manually select the folder each time you turn the frame on. It has 1GB of internal memory which is nice, but if you want to transfer photos from a memory card or USB stick you have to do it one photo at a time through a slow, non-intuitive process. It displays the pictures from my camera, but if I edit them on my PC, they often do not display. Some pictures cause it to lock up, others display darkly, some have a wide horizontal band with corrupted colors, etc. I have tried saving the JPG files from several different programs with different options but none have fixed the problem. It also seems to have a problem with photos saved at 1024×768 resolution (the native resolution of the frame). This should be the best resolution to use...the photos do not have to be resized to be displayed, they take the least possible space, and load the fastest-they just don't display. The person who gave me the frame bought one for himself and has similar problems with it. I tried to contact Piximodo's support but they never responded to me.

Keep away from it,

Very poor finishing. The black color on the frame was damage. Dry adhesive needles were spread between the screen and the protected glass. Looks like the speakers inside are moving freely. And for final it did not work, so I could not even see the quality of the picture. I returned it and order different frame.

I bought this frame for my mom a while back, and she has not had any problems with it at all. The black wooden finish fits in nicely with her living room, and with the 15 inch display, the pictures are crystal clear. My mom is the type to usually be intimidated when it comes to technology, but the software - while not fancy - is really simple, and she was able to figure it out on her own. It also doesn't freeze up like some other ones I've seen. The only bad part is that I bought this frame for over $300.

Technically defective, Zero Support Available,
This review is from: Piximodo Reflection 15M 15-Inch Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
We've had two of these units, one 12" and one 15", with the same problem. The unit includes an alarm feature, which goes off every day. The first night it woke me at 5:00 AM. The menu setting showed OFF. I eventually set it for noon just to avoid the disturbance. When I called Piximodo customer service (800-913-7191) I got a call center that apparently answers calls for many different brands of products. I was then transferred to a "specialist" with a New York accent, who acted like he knew what he was doing until he told me to set the alarm menu setting to "ON". (There is no "on" setting, just "off," "once" and "every".) He acted like he knew what he was doing but nothing he suggested resulted in the alarm being turned off. This is a technically primitive unit wrapped in a slick package. I do not recommend it. |
