About the Author

Barbara was a habitual dieter for 30 years. Since the age of 10 she bought, tried and failed just about very crazy diet, contraption and pill around. So obsessed with the desire to be thin, she quit her "career" and became an aerobics instructor and personal trainer. At the age of 40,she recognized the psychological damage of her obsession and she decided to quit dieting. That's when she found her answer. She wants to share with you the experiences, observations and conclusions of her 30 years of food obsession and defining herself by the mirror and the scale.

I know how it is and I have developed a 9 step program for you to "get over it" and learn how to love food, your body and yourself again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart, Sensible, Doable "DIET"!, August 15, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Pizza and Ice Cream Diet (Paperback)
When I read about Barbara Tessari's THE PIZZA & ICE CREAM BOOK in my local paper, the title tickled me (and all the booksellers and dieters I mentioned it to), but once I got my copy, I kept reading for its down-to-earth, common-sense advice! Despite the colorful title, TP&ICD is a most readable, laudable, refreshingly sensible book on eating and fitness. Tessari discusses her own experiences overcoming food-management problems and poor self-esteem, as well as debunking and deconstructing "magic" diet schemes. Her 9-step "The NEW You" plan is bound to help you feel much more at peace with healthy food and treats alike and, most importantly, at peace with yourself (she's got choice words about unrealistic appearance expectations being foisted on people); I know I do! Forget the fad diet books and buy THE PIZZA & ICE CREAM DIET if you really want to become healthy and fit in a realistic, doable way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Controlling bad habits about food, July 12, 2002
This review is from: The Pizza and Ice Cream Diet (Paperback)
Barbara Tessari's The Pizza & Ice Cream Diet isn't just another fad diet -- many of which are dangerous to one's health due to their lack of balanced nutrition. The Pizza & Ice Cream Diet is a definitive, "user friendly", and practical plan for restructuring one's lifestyle, controlling bad habits about food, and learning moderation for a healthier enjoyment of a balanced diet - which can still include the occasional indulgence of treats such as pizza and ice cream. Individual chapters address dealing with the negative psychological specters of blame and denial, incorporating nutrition, exercise, and weight training into a new way of life, the value of keeping a food journal, and more. The Pizza & Ice Cream Diet is an excellent, basic, effective, and very highly recommended self-improvement guide.
