Note -- I'm actually not using this as a pizza stone, but rather to help regulate temperature in my oven. I live in an apartment with a cheap gas stove and I was constantly burning the bottoms of my cookies and other delicate foods. I saw a cooking show where the host put bricks in his oven to help keep a consistent temperature, and I realized that I could use a pizza stone for the same thing. This one has worked great for that; it's big enough to cover almost the entire bottom rack of the oven and has a lot of mass. I covered the entire thing in heavy-duty aluminum foil to keep it clean if anything drips on it and leave it in there. I have definitely seen a difference in my oven's performance. It does take longer to heat up, but the stone deflects the heat evenly so the bottoms of dishes are no longer burning before the rest has a chance to cook. I realize this isn't the traditional use for this product, but wanted to add a review in case anyone else is considering it for the same reasons.

Makes excellent bread. This is large as baking stones go, with less than 1" clearance on both sides of the oven. Because of this, you may need to remove it when cooking certain other items - the heat does not circulate as well. It is the best quality stone I have used.

I was looking for a pizza stone that would be large enough to put two home made pizza's on it and this one is perfect. It fits across the entire width of my oven. I have used it a few times, and it seems to work great. It did give off some chemical odor at first, which seems less now. This is the reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I believe it is made of "cordierite" which, as far as I know, is considered the best material for a pizza stone.

I bought this pizza stone to bake artisanal breads in my oven. My smaller Pizzacraft stone did well but it was too small for my longer loaves. This new stone fit my GE profile oven perfectly, allowing a once inch margin for the steam from my roasting pan to get through the entire oven and give my loaves a nice crunchy crispy crust! It works very well and I am pleased with it. I leave it in the oven whenever I bake or even when I clean my oven on the self-clean oven. Love it!

Everything is exactly as described except the stone is not 22 inches wide. It is exactly 22.5 inches wide. Because of the type of racks in my oven, 22 inches is the maximum size I could use. The package shows 22.5 inches, but the description on Amazon shows 22. That 1/2 inch makes a big difference.

I don't understand why Amazon continues to sell this item. I received my first one on 8/4 and I didn't even have to unpack it totally. I could see the crack from side to side. I immediately returned the item using the label Amazon provides and they were quick to send me an e-mail informing that a new one would be shipped (I chose a replacement). They also sent me an e-mail on the next day to inform me that they had received the broken item. Then on 8/7 I received the replacement. Surprise!!!! Didn't even had to unpack. IT WAS BROKEN. This time I simply requested for a refund. On Monday,8/12 I returned the item using the label. Yesterday I tracked the package and saw that it was delivered and accepted. Curiously that I HAVE NOT received any e-mails from Amazon about it and just checked my AMEX card: NO REFUNDS YET!!!!! Is that how Amazon treat its customer when you ask for a refund???????? Don't ever think of buying that stone because I'm pretty sure you'll never get it in just one piece!!!!

I am very surprised and extremely pleased with this pizza stone. It retains heat and redistributes it evenly. It has managed to cut down my pizza cooking time by 8 minutes and my crust is a lot better than when I used my smaller and thinner stone.
It has also done a wonderful job with my bread.
The only thing I would change is I'd make it 15'' wide instead of 13''.
I don't know how I went so long without it.
