5.0 out of 5 stars This book is the starting point. Still the best.
This is the best book I have read on wooing one into the basic philosophy of simplicity. There is a spiritual place in all of us that needs to be filled, and this book points out the path. I have given this book as a gift more than any other and every time I have received profuse thanks in return.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware! Not for pagans or other non-Christians.
This is a Christian book, so be prepared to have the Bible quoted at you and used to justify everything said. The concept may be OK, but why does the author have to Christian-ize everything and make everything revolve around the Christian God (and Jesus)?! Us pagans and Buddhists get really annoyed by this, and in my case I couldn't get past it. If you're Christian,...

The gentle, and inspiring text has the ability to move one gently toward the desired simplicity of living and without regard to finances. The simple concepts with gentle guidence is a marvel. This is one of my favorite gifts to share with others.

This is probably the sweetest, most beautiful book I've ever read on the subject of simplifying your life. It's probably helped me more on the path of inner and outer simplicity than anything else I've read. Can I give it a 10+ rating??

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening!, July 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Place Called Simplicity: The Quiet Beauty of Simple Living (Paperback)
This book was given to me following the birth of my first child. At first I could not see the relevance, but soon thanked my wise friend. This book was of tremendous value to me as I developed my new identity and began to reprioritize my life. I was inspired to declutter my life -- not just of physical possessions but also of the trivial matters that I often allowed to irritate me. I have since given the book as a gift on many occasions. I've added the book to my "library" of other comfort readings: the entire Chicken Soup series, The Moral Compass and various devotionals-- specifically those of Stormie O'Martian.

5.0 out of 5 stars I always knew..., June 11, 2001
This review is from: A Place Called Simplicity: The Quiet Beauty of Simple Living (Paperback)
that I was being called to a simplier life. As I read this awesome book, what I knew was calling me and tugging at my heart for so long was being reaffirmed. God wants to be the center of our lives. By turning back to simplicity and leaning on Him we accomplish just that. This book is well worth the time...

4.0 out of 5 stars Getting a grasp on simple living, July 22, 2008
This review is from: A Place Called Simplicity: The Quiet Beauty of Simple Living (Paperback)
Cloninger is an amazingly inspired author. I found this book "simple" to follow, and she took me right into her cabin, where I wanted to stay. The helpful ideas to living a simple life found in her book, give all of its readers ideas how they can achieve simplicity in their own lives without leaving the city and moving to the country. What she teaches in her book is that simplicity really starts with a state of mind. Then she offers ways to achieve that state of mind. It is a book worth the time of the read, especially if what you are looking for is a slower pace and a quality of life offered freely years ago, but now we have to want it and work towards it! And she shows us how!

2.0 out of 5 stars It wasn't quite what I'd hope...., May 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: A Place Called Simplicity: The Quiet Beauty of Simple Living (Paperback)
I have been interested in simpliflying my life for a while now but most of the books are written by secular writers. So when I saw this I was interested but as I said it wasn't what I hoped it would be. To much personal stories and not enough how to's.A better book for book for how to's is simple living by janet Luhrs, although it is not written from a christian perspective either.
