This review is from: The Place of Trust: Martin Luther on the Sermon on the Mount (Hardcover)
As this rare jewel came as a recommendation from a close friend back in the summer of 2003, I found myself
as a skeptic and former atheist on my knees. My initial thoughts through the first 10-12 pgs. were; "if this is true about the God I never knew, then I want to know Him". I was becoming sober for the first time in 20 yrs also. So, immersed in AA literature and not in Scripture, my buddy lent me this book, which I believe has been out of print for sometime. (I suppose that's why its high dollar now.) I had bought 2 copies around '04 and still have them as Im a novice collector of books. So, my interests quickly shifted from the world to the knowledge of God.

If you want to see the heart of God and the excellent, yet somewhat wordy Luther, -which is normal, then this book is certainly worth the price of your souls' feeding. I was converted shortly after reading this, apart from any real Scripture reading yet. My hard heart was broken into tears as I pondered the value of human life -the way God sees it. Hence, the judgement and mercy seat reality as vividly warned throughout the Bible. Luther explains the scourge of mankind's sin salvaged by the only One who could or would reconcile man back to Himself, namely Christ Jesus, our only Lord and Saviour. I have yet to find any other one!!!

I wanted God to be merciful to me and didn't know how to resolve all the guilt I had buried within, that I formerly and masterfully denied for so long. This book led me to the real deal in Matthew 5-7. Dr. Luther is and always will be the prime in my initial steps of faith from darkness to His marvelous light. (thanks John)
