You have to remember this is a documentary soundtrack. It isn't typical Civil Wars music as a whole. That being said, this is terrific! There are many instrumental tracks which allow us some insight into Joy, John Paul and T-Bone's creative process and allow both members of the Civil Wars to showcase talents we just don't normally hear. One instrumental piece features John Paul playing some awesome slide blues guitar. You can visualize an old Clint Eastwood western. Joy plays a haunting piano piece which stirs emotion. Long Time Gone is a great track featuring both sets of vocals and is a treat of a song but Finding North is where you'll find the Civil Wars you've come to know and love. The music is simpler, the vocals more melodic and the harmonies and amazing "togetherness" are all there. This is a work of art and I can't wait to see the documentary so I can see how this music is used. On a personal note, I just hope this isn't the last we ever hear from this amazing duo...there is SO much more waiting to be written and performed. It would be sad to never hear it.

I have always admired the work done by both "The Civil Wars" and " T Bone Burnett".
Bringing these two powerful musical entities together for this project is just plain awesome !
This album is a classic with it's moving instrumentals and intricate, soulful singing.

The only thing that remains now is to actually view the video and see the juxtaposition of the tunes in context. that I will do a.s.a.p., but, the compositions are stand-alone even w/o a video context. The only true issue is the lack of more vocals by TCW's because those are always welcome.

I Love, Love, Love the Civil Wars. It is only too bad for us fans that the band is no more. I would scoop up anything you can find by this group. This is a mostly instrumental album with a couple of the songs having that hauntingly beautiful voice of Joy in it. Lovely...

Very nice album - typically well-produced project by Mr. Burnett with wonderful performances by The Civil Wars and some very good instrumental interludes as well.

It's pretty good. It has some C.W. songs, and some instrumental numbers. A pretty mellow album, good for playing while reading a book.

Another great CD that was worth purchasing. Have all copies from Civil Wars. Hope they stay together and continue with the singing.
