The best of Bela's early period,
By A Customer

Surprise! There actually was a Bela Fleck before the Flecktones, and this disc captures most of his best material from this period. The majority of this CD is amazing, though there are a couple of clunkers. This material really shows the humor and quirkiness of Bela's style; come on now, how can you resist a tune called "Nuns for Nixon"? Fans will want to supplement this disc with a few others to truly represent this period of his career: "Deviation" (which is partly represented on this disc), "Drive" (which is not), and "Inroads" (also partially represented here). "Daybreak" also comes from this period of Bela's development, but is in a much more traditional bluegrass style; a very worthy disc in its own right (maybe 4 stars) which will appeal to the right audience.

After listening to a sample track on Pandora.com I knew I had to buy it. Great banjo playing by Bela Fleck. Track 6 is my favorite, "Another Morning," acustic duet with Jerry Douglas. A winner.

Must have for Bluegrass/Jazz fans...,

No vocals at all in this one, just clean, sharp instruments with very little effects. I work with headphones on and look for the best music without vocals. This is up there with Miles and Glass (Phillip).

There's no doubt he would become The Bnajo Master.,

Being this is one of Bela's earlier works you can hear what he was to become. His ease and fluent finger work isn't quite what it is today, but you can tell he's going to be a master at his craft. A must for bluegrass/jazz lovers!
