Places in Time: A must have for the Michael Gettel fan..., December 6, 2008
This review is from: Places in Time (Audio CD)
I am surprised that no one has reviewed this particular CD. Places in Time was the second CD that I purchased of Michael Gettel's (The first was The Key, which I promptly purchased after hearing a sample of it on Art Good's Jazz Tracks show back in 1995). Although I have never met Michael nor had the chance to see him in concert (did he ever tour?), his music has touched my soul and I own all of his CDs.
Places in Time is really unique - at least it is to me - because it takes me through a musical journey that somehow connects with memories of my own. Just try to lie still and be unmoved by the Storyteller Sleeps! There's not a bad track on this CD. Each one sounds inspired and original, and Winter's Twilight is (arguably) his best song ever.
I have listened to this CD while traveling to or staying at my most precious and memorable get-away locations. Each time I hear it, even years later, I reconnect to those memories all over again and it takes me to my own Places in Time.

Would be a wonderful soundtrack for a nature documentary., December 9, 2010
This review is from: Places in Time (Audio CD)
This music sounds to me like the music you might hear in a well made documentary about the wildlife and natural wonders in a national park. "River Run" for example, invokes the excitement of a white river rafting journey. "Memory in The Snow" would be perfect for scenes of wild creatures cavorting in fresh powder snow. This is very evocative music.
