Placing the theories,

This review is from: Placing the Gods: Sanctuaries and Sacred Space in Ancient Greece (Hardcover)
There is a lot to digest in this book. From the origins of Mycennaean sanctuaries and palaces as cultic centers to the placement of Demetrian sanctuaries in the Greek cities of ancient times, but all in all the essays here give one a good impression of the ideas and theories behind the various topics. The only problem with a book like this one is the disjointed feeling one gets from it because it is a book of essays rather than a cohesive work. One things is certain, you will want to seek out further information about almost every single one of the theories presented here, and that in itself is a good thing. |
