PLAIN TALK requred reading.,
By Bill Lhota (Worthington, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plain Talk About Leadership (Hardcover)
Over my 37 year career in business I have read many books on leadership and how to manage a company for success. PLAIN TALK ABOUT LEADERSHIP is more than your typical leadership/management book and it is written by someone that has REALLY run a large company and turned it into one of the most successful in its industry.Just the fact that the author has "been there and done that" speaks volumes (no pun intended) in my opinion. PLAIN TALK is very well written but more importantly it contains down to earth advice. Advice that has actually worked for the author in real life, and advice that will be of benefit for anyone that wants to imporve their leadership/management skills. Not only does it cover important topics for all managers it contains Silver Bullets at the end of each chapter that serve as easy reminders for those who want to sharpen their leadership/management skills. PLAIN TALK shoud be required reading for all those who want to be good leaders and managers.

Bob Bailey's Plain Talk about Leadership ought to be required reading for all managers, leaders, students and wannabees! It is chock full of remarkably sound advice from a guy that has been there and done it.
I plan to make it a recommended text in my MBA Leadership class.

Bob Bailey provides many illustrations from his successful career to "hammer home" his points on Foundation of Leadership Being Great Communications. Mr. Bailey reinforces the importance of open, face to face, frequent and repetitive communications in creating an effective organization. I provided copies of this book to all my managers.

Bob's "bullets" are a quick read so every sentence shoots straight to the point. Great ideas for a quick fix or major "life-style" change. In times like this, when we need a positive lift, anyone would find this book a refreshing library staple.

Bailey's book is outstanding, essential reading for current or aspiring leaders in any field. It offers practical advice on everything from motivation to image to problem solving and makes clear throughout that relationships with employees, customers and one's own family must never be discounted."Plain Talk" is also a great read for those working for the leaders. It makes one eager to work for a company that rewards competence and loyalty through leaders who know what it takes to help a company -- and its employees -- succeed. Read it, keep it, read it again. It's a book you'll learn from and enjoy.

This review is from: Plain Talk About Leadership (Hardcover)
The chapters in this book deal with examples of real world business situations and provide fascinating insight into practical solutions. There are lots of chapters so it's easy to pick up and read one or two of them without spending an hour. I felt, as I do when I read Peter Drucker, that the information was presented in a very readable and interesting format. Mr. Drucker has a nice way of presenting complex issues in a simple way. Mr. Bailey does the same thing.A real plus with this book are the "Silver Bullets". After reading it I was able to quickly review each chapter and locate the key points using the tables of Silver Bullets. While I enjoyed reading the actual text, it's nice to have a summary of key items to refer to. If you ever wished you had a friend who was an executive who would sit down with you and relate their management experiences, this will be a great book to read. The author presents the information in a very personable style and gives a lot of great examples of how he handled management challenges over the years. If you don't have a management mentor in your life, this book is the next best thing.
