A Plain Disappearance by Amanda Flower is one of the best Amish stories that I have read. Chloe Humphrey grew up in the Amish community but when her mother died, her father remarried and his new wife did not want Chloe to live with them so Chloe's best friend's family took her in and treated her as one of their own and she became an Englischer. Chloe has now moved back to Appleseed Creek to work at the college as head of the computer department. Timothy Troyer also grew up Amish but several years earlier he left the order and now lives as an Englischer. His sister Becky is planning to leave the Amish life also and is Chloe's roommate. Chloe is just beginning a relationship with Timothy and on their first date they find the body of Katie Lambright, an Amish teenager. Near where the body is found, they also find evidence that Timothy's friend Billy may be involved in the murder. As it turns out Billy is not who he said he was and has been living in the community under a false identity.

Amanda did a great job in the development of the plot of this story. There were several different subplots but they all meshed together very well and made for a most enjoyable story. All the characters and scenes were very well developed and I actually felt as if I were having all the adventures right along with them. My favorite character was Timothy's seven year old brother Thomas who was absolutely adorable and stole whatever scene he was in. All the characters came to life on the pages of the book. It did seem a little odd that a police officer would ask Chloe for help but since the Amish were very hesitant to talk with the police, Chloe could ask questions and hopefully get answers. I like a good suspense story and this is one of the best I have read.

This is the third book in the Appleseed Creek Mysteries and each volume gets better. I love the characters in this story, especially Chloe, probably because she's a lot like me. It has also been fun watching Becky Troyer grow up as she struggles to decide the path she should travel in her own life. Timothy Trover is also a strong character as he begins to come to terms with his own past and choices. The character I have struggled to figure out is Chief Rose, I look forward to see what the author does with her in future books. There's definitely a back story there that needs to come out.

The storyline was once again strong, with a mystery of who killed the Amish girl was well done. The author did give a few clues about half way through the story that I did not pick up initially. As well she threw a couple of curve balls with our favorite thugs, Curt and Brock. I liked what she did there as well.

There is humor as well as tension in this story that made it an enjoyable read. I look forward to more adventures in AppleSeed Creek as well as other books by this author.

Disclaimer: I did receive this book from the publisher but was under no obligation to give anything but my honest opinion.

About the Book:

USA Today recently hailed award-nominated author Amanda Flower for A Plain Death, calling it "the first Amish rom-com . . . bring on the next one!" As the enthusiastic reviews continue to mount, she's back with her third Appleseed Creek mystery, A Plain Disappearance.

It's Christmastime in Amish Country, and Chloe Humphrey has begun settling into her life in Appleseed Creek excited to see where her new relationship with Timothy Troyer will lead. Unfortunately it leads to murder when the couple discovers the body of Amish teenager Katie Lambright while on their first date.

Near the scene there is evidence that Timothy's friend and auto mechanic Billy Thorpe is involved with the crime. The police reveal Billy is not really who he said he was and has been living the last decade in Knox County under a stolen alias. Now, Chloe and Timothy must find Billy, bring him to justice, or prove his innocence.

My Review:

There is nothing more delightful then breathing in that cold, night air with snow softly falling on your nose. Smelling pine and the smoke from nearby chimneys and just knowing that Christmas is right around the corner. I love that time of year.
