Editorial Reviews

Kevin Whately stars as David Bruce, a newly prosperous gas inspector who moves to London with his new wife and their infant daughter. Their new station in life affords them the luxury of a live-in maid named Jane. The turbulent story follows the collapse of David's mental health as the pressures of his new job take a terrible toll. As David's work creates more and more stress, he forces his attentions on his new maid, unaware that his adult son from a previous marriage is wooing the same woman. The facade of respectability begins to erode and what follows is a tale of secret love, addiction, lies, violence, murder and madness. The only hope of redemption exists in the character of a poor servant girl, "Plain Jane!"

4.0 out of 5 stars True to Life August 22, 2001

Format:VHS Tape
How sad when others lack of caring for human feelings in family relations and caring only for how others view them out side of the family. This is what this story touches on. A non caring wife and a caring husband, who values are blown all out of portions trying to satisfy his uncaring wife. The maid suffers at the hands of the family but in the long haul comes out on top. It a good movie.
