5.0 out of 5 stars The best!, January 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plain Jane's Thrill of Very Fattening Foods Cookbook (Paperback)
My son gave me this book for my birthday when he was eight and now he's 38...back in those hippie days! He picked it out himself. He knew his mother well. I lent this to someone and couldn't remember who it was. I pined for this book everytime I thought about the Heath Bar Crunch cake. Despite a Google search, I could never find one that matched this recipe. The recipes are truly fattening from a time when we didn't think about cholesterol. They are also incredibly easy. I made alot of them and they are all fabulous and, obviously, memorable. Friends from those days still ask me to make one of their favorites. Aside from the recipes this book is a trip back to memories of dinners at my house when we were all poor undergraduate/graduate students but didn't know it. Even if you aren't a Baby-Boomer, you will truly love this book and will pine for it if you lose it. I will always miss the inscription and sentiments of my little boy but he'll be incredibly happy to taste that Missisipi Mud Cake that he and his best friend loved and ate in one evening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Comfort Food Recipe Book....Ever!, August 13, 2005
This review is from: Plain Jane's Thrill of Very Fattening Foods Cookbook (Paperback)
I'm not from the other coast, so Caravelle doesn't mean diddly to me, but I've made the bread pudding recipe on several occasions and it can't be beat. Use a french baguette for the bread, buttermilk and omit the cherries. To die for. Easy to follow recipes, results are wonderful and it's funny to read.
