4.0 out of 5 stars Living In Someone Else's Shoes, May 21, 2007
This review is from: In Plain Sight (Paperback)
In Plain Sight by Gracie McKeever is one of several paranormal novels written by this amazing author. In Plain Sight is a story about Samantha Taylor and Dara Kelly and how their beings become entangled in a very bizarre way. Samantha was killed during an argument with her abusive husband, Dawson; was it an accident or intentionally? Dara is a bounty hunter and while out on a job, staking out the location of a "Skip" (person who skips bail), Dara is waiting for her partner, Diego, to come as back-up but he does not show. Instead, one of Dara's rivals shows up and takes her out, preventing her from claiming the Skip as her own. This is where Sam and Dara meet in their death.

God, with his Angel helpers, Michael and Gabriel decide that there are some lessons that need to be learned and choose for Sam's spirit to enter the body of Dara while Dara's spirit is still present. What an interesting concept to think about. The reader has the opportunity to explore with the characters, how they will play their new roles in the land of the living. Sam maneuvers through Dara's world, quickly accessing her new found role as a bounty hunter and a woman that has a love interest. Sam's abusive husband, Dawson, is on the run for her murder and Dara is the bounty hunter looking to take him down. So many twists and turns with a variety of characters come into play, helping to create an amazing bond that grows between Sam and Dara; a true connection of spirits. Dara has a love for a man by the name of Caution. The question is what role will Sam in Dara's body play with this man, while realizing that they have a connection in her former life?

Gracie McKeever created a book that drew me in from the first chapter, with me knowing I would love the storyline right off. I felt the emotions and connections of all the characters as if I was apart of their world. Feelings of fear, mistrust, racism, jealously and love are all felt throughout the book. I would highly recommend this book to those that love a paranormal mystery with a wonderful ending, which will bring a smile to your face. Be prepared to possibly pull your dictionary out due to the extensive vocabulary that is used, but this is a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another chance at love . . ., May 6, 2007

This review is from: In Plain Sight (Paperback)
In a normal world, Dara Kelly and Samantha Taylor may have never met. Dara, affectinately called Dare, is a bold, brassy, yet beautiful bounty hunter who fights for respect in her career 'til death, literally. Samantha, or Sam, is an insecure young woman who has made too many wrong decisions in her life, one that ultimately leads to her death at the hands of a man she barely knew, a husband ten years her senior.

When deities above decide to show both woman what their lives could have been, Dare, marred by her past two failed marriages, is mortified when Samantha is destined to walk in her shoes--eating, tasting, and touching all that was hers, even loving the one man she regretfully refused to marry. Sam is even more stunned when she discovers her new dangerous profession, but later embraces it when she discovers this saucy edge is part of the reason the sexy Caution Foster fell in love with her--or the woman formally known as Dare.

Barely acclimated into their new roles, both lead women are faced with two questions: what happens when two both love the same man?, and can they work together to find out who really wants to permanently eliminate Dara?

In Plain Sight is a gripping, sexually steamy, edge-of-your-seat, cut-throat suspense that tackles emotionally charged issues such as interracial dating, racism, domestic abuse, single parenthood, heartbreak, and letting go of the past to truly love yourself in the now. McKeever delivers a story woven with such intricate scenes soaked with adventure and suspense that a reader will find it difficult to close this book until the end. Characters are so vivid, so realistic that I found my heart skipping a beat as if I were racing through Dara's dangerous escapades and loving Caution Foster as if he were my man. From brutal murder to sizzling erotic scenes that simply melt your most sensual parts, In Plain Sight is definitely an erotic paranormal suspense you can not afford to miss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Talk about an out of body experience!, December 31, 2008
Samantha Taylor is murdered by her husband, Dawson Foster, after he pushes her down the stairs. Fate conspires to use Sam to help out in others' lives. Dara Kelly is a bounty hunter. When a job goes south, she finds herself hanging outside her body and trying to help the intruder who moved in and took over her life. She has problems with commitment and wants to be independent, much to her boyfriend's, Caution Foster's, dismay. When he tries to get her to settle down, she disappears from his life for weeks. Little does he know that the woman who comes back to him is not the same woman. In the meantime, Dara and Sam are working to find out who is behind the attacks on Dara since she has issues with a fellow bounty hunter. When the attacks hit close to home, they will do anything to keep Caution and his family safe. Will they be able to stop the attacker in time?

I really enjoyed the twist on the switching bodies - only this time, two people are pretty much trying to share the same body. Talk about an out of body experience! I have to admit, the ending was not quite what I expected, but I really did enjoy Sam and Dara's story. It was an interesting tale. The book does take a few twists and turns as they work to find out who is out to get Dara. The romance is steamy and the plot thickens with each page, and in my mind, it is an unexpected ending. Gracie C. McKeever writes an exciting and compelling story in her book In Plain Sight. I would recommend that if you enjoy books about fate and ghosts, that you pick this up today.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Romance Within A Mystery Within A Prophecy, November 26, 2007
By
This review is from: In Plain Sight (Paperback)
What if you woke up one morning and looked in the mirror - only to realize that it wasn't your own face you were looking at...?

What if you had a dream that you were falling - only to watch your body descend without you actually in it...?

For Dara Kelly and Samantha Foster, the answer to these questions can't come fast enough. Each from vastly different backgrounds, both women suffer a similarly violent fate: Dara at the hands of a rival bounty hunter, Samantha at the hands of a philandering, abusive husband. Neither sees it coming, nor does either one have the slightest clue of what's truly in store for them both...

As the old saying goes, "Nothing happens by accident," and both Dara and Samantha soon realize that the unfolding of their intertwined fates happens according to Heavenly design; under the influence of spiritual forces the likes of which they can only imagine, the two women embark upon a common quest of restoring the balance of justice and ensuring the fulfillment of prophetic realities dependent upon their courage, tenacity, and faith.

In Plain Sight is a richly rewarding read, with compelling characters you can't help becoming attached to - no matter how villainous they may be. McKeever displays sound literary judgment in revealing only as much of the storyline as needed in order to keep you turning page after page, in anxious anticipation of the story's continued development. The suspense is palpable, and the plot is filled with enough delicious twists to rival M. Night Shyamalan at his best.

You don't have to be a believer in God or the Heavens to be moved by this love story within a Love Story. McKeever's effervescence in crafting an engaging narrative of betrayal, vengeance, and ultimate redemption has many redeeming traits of its own, chief among them her ability to flat-out tell a great story. Highly recommended.
