5.0 out of 5 stars If you were turned off by the first book, try this series again!, November 3, 2008
This review is from: Plains Of Fire (Paperback)
I have recently purchased this series and given them another chance after being disappointed with the numerous technical inaccuracies that were prevalent in the first book, The Barrabas Run. There are actually many different writers contributing to the series under the pen name Jack Hild and the series gets much better with the second installment. There is very good story telling coupled with the technical guts that the typical Executioner / Mack Bolan / Able Team / Phoenix Force reader would come to expect. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars BIG BANG IN IRAN, August 22, 2007

This review is from: Plains Of Fire (Paperback)

PLAINS OF FIRE - BOOK 2 SOLDIERS OF BARRABAS series - author is
Jack Hild (House name for this series)

This second book in the SOBs series has the mission taking place deep within Iran, 125 miles southeast of Kerman. Using a dhow to reach Iran from the sea, the mission then moves on foot into the hot, sandy areas of the Iranian desert culminating at a bunker being used to prepare 'dirty' nuclear bombs.

This book from Febrary, 1984, will offer a hauntingly surreal read as it mirrors the headlines of today's newspapers. Concering its historical accuracy, this plot could have been written only last week! Talk about forcasting the future.

The SOB mercenary team assembles, the SOB team goes into action, and the SOB team exits Iran without any news headlines whatever. No doubt Iran is stunned, but they are forced to settle for denial, while the rest of the world knows that detonation has taken place. This book will hold the reader's interest from beginning to end, and is what some would call "a real pageturner".

If you read the SOBs series then you know what to expect, but if you have never read one of these GOLD EAGLE Soldiers of Barrabas books then it may be time to start. And this one, The Plains of Fire, is an excellent one with which to begin.

Semper Fi.
