4.0 out of 5 stars Not really drinking songs, but nice anyway, April 21, 2003

This review is from: Les Plaisirs du Palais: Drinking Songs of the Renaissance (Audio CD)
I find it difficult to rate anything without putting it in context. I expected ribald drinking songs similar to "Gaudeamus Sigiture"(sp?) (Latin for "drink to friendship".) For those who never heard of it, think of a bunch of mideval college students who are a wee bit over-trained in Latin and a wee bit intoxicated - hanging out in an alehouse. Well, that's what I was expecting, but not what I got.

These songs are more about eating than drinking. There IS a drinking song or two. There are also two prayers. (aka Grace).

Nicely done. Just, different from what I expected!

Good for someone trying to improve their French. I think. (I'm not sure if the singers are using current French or Olde French, and would appreciate hearing from someone who can tell me!
