1.0 out of 5 stars Schlock-Rock
For all you people that give this 5 stars, you should have your head examined. When I was growing up, my sister would come home on the weekends and this is one of the many albums she would play from this group. And I had an epiphany when I was about 8 or 9 yrs. old. You see, thank god my brother played real rock 'n' roll music that you hear nowadays called "classic rock"...

I am old enough and music savvy enough to know that every successful pop artist has at least one personal album project they're just dying to let their audience in on (Julian Lennons' "PHOTOGRAPH SMILE" or Rick Springfields' "ROCK OF LIFE"). This is usually the third or fourth album in a series of top sellings albums OR it's the last ditch effort from what used to be a popular artist (their way of saying "well, if I'm going out, it's gonna be with something I wrote and produced, not what my label thinks will put me back on the charts"). "THE PLAN" is that album for the Osmonds. If you can be open minded enough in your musical appreciation to allow an artist to move beyond the "box" you were so comfortable for them to create in, you will hear some real craftsmanship. Give this one a chance. This one's for the grown-ups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and touching, November 20, 2003

I owned this album when it was released on vinyl back in '73. I was a teeny bopper Osmond fan at the time. I lost the album long ago and have yearned for it over the years. When I found it again on CD, I did not hesitate to buy it. In fact, I plan on giving it as a Christmas gift to my children and family.
This music moves you. The testimony of these gentlemen is inspiring and uplifting.
The natural urge for man to seek where he came from and where he is going is addressed in this music. One's religous background has little to do with the ability to appreciate the beauty of this work. At a time when concept albums deal more with the negative aspects of man's existence, this is a very welcome change.
Thank you to Alan Osmond for working so hard to bring this music back for future generations.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRING ON THE OSMOND CD's!!!, May 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Plan, The (Audio CD)
This album suffered because of people's ignorance and fear of religious beliefs. I'm not a Morman but I don't have to be. I'll always love the Osmond Family and their music from the seventies. It's a shame that more of it isn't released on CD for new generations of music lovers to hear. I can't think of better role models and they are definitely needed today! This album had two Top 40 singles in 1973 and they both only reached #36. GOIN HOME and the beautiful LET ME IN. TRAFFIC IN MY MIND is a great and relevant song for people of any religion or state of mind. MOVIE MAN and ONE WAY TICKET TO ANYWHERE are my other favorites. This isn't my personal favorite of their albums and it remained the Osmonds proudest achievement and maybe that's why it's the only one released to date. PLEASE release Crazy Horses, Brainstorm, Love me for a reason, and the Proud One on CD. ARE YOU UP THERE?

I'm not religious at all. I know what this album's about and I really don't care. The songs on this CD are awesome! I'm really happy they released this album on CD and would love to see more. The Osmonds were really a "singles" group. This is the one "album" of thiers that they actually tried to tie the songs together and it works great. It's mature, thoughful and inspirational. Now, where's "Crazy Horses" and "Phase III"????

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Music, Even If You Are NOT Mormon, July 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Plan, The (Audio CD)
I disagree with the people who see a problem with this particular CD. I listened to it over the weekend and find there is much to it that anyone can enjoy. As a Catholic/Christian, I find that most, if not all of the songs can be interpreted in more than one way. The message I hear on this CD is one of a person's search for God and once that is accomplished a search of God's purpose for my life. Even the message of eternal love can be interpreted as God's eternal and unending love for each individual person. From there, you can just sit back and enjoy some REALLY, REALLY GREAT OSMOND MUSIC!!!

Yes, the Osmonds are Mormon, and probably always will be. But that does not mean that their music NEEDS to be interpreted as a typical Mormon would interprete it. People need not be afraid of listening to this CD for fear of being converted to the Mormon faith. What they will discover, I believe, is a CD that takes a person on an individual search for what God wants of them in their particular life. It is just good inspirational music that each individual needs to interprete on an individual basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Take It Too Easy......, March 30, 2004

This has to have been by far The Osmond's most intriguing, symbolic, and most captivating project. If "The Plan" here was to mirror their beliefs, they have certainly succeeded. The cd is full of tunes that stir many emotions. If you like to "get into your music", and you like a range of music; fast, slow, many times mellow and warm, then this is the cd for you.Add another *star* for continuity and creativity.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the OSMONDS??!!??, August 20, 2003

This album is as relevant today as was in 1973, if not MORE so. These songs make you think about your faith (or lack thereof), and really get to your heart. My absolute favorite is "Before the Beginning", a melodic tribute to where we all came from. "Are you Up There?" asks a question we have all pondered at one time or another. BUY this CD and play it for everyone you know - just don't tell them who made it until it's over. They will NOT BELIEVE this is the Osmonds! My 12 year old daughter thinks this album is awesome, and that is a major recommendation!! ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow, I remembered all the words!, January 7, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plan, The (Audio CD)
I bought this because it was one of the first albums I ever owned. I remembered it being a concept album, and I remembered loving it, but until I popped this into the cd player, I had know idea I would remember all the words to all the songs after almost 30 years.

It seems a little dated (obviously) and Donnie fans should be aware that he doesn't sing lead on everything, but I actually still think this is an excellent album.
