Customer Reviews

For the past 10 years, I have used this book each time I've gone to Paris.
M. CHUN
We always end up using my book because it shows you the closest metro stop to every street for which you look and also carries much more comprehensible maps.
Arose
We used it daily and loved the fact that it fit into my small bag I carried.

This book is so good it's amazing that other guides are still being manufactured. I spent a great deal of time in Paris and this book was absolutely indispensable. On the inside covers are maps of the Metro system and the greater-Paris area RER (train) system, so you can peek in the book while you're on the metro or train without looking like a confused tourist. The book itself has an index of all Paris streets and major buildings, which leads you to a section of maps broken down "par arrondissement" (by district). The book is compact enough to fit in a small purse (and is sturdily bound so you can toss it in), but contains a wealth of information. To top it off, the color scheme is attractive and the typesetting is top-notch. This guide is the ultimate - it's useful when you're there, it'll be beautiful on a bookshelf when you come home. If you buy a fold-out map or something other than this guide, you'll regret it.

This book is truly pocket-sized(3.5" x 5.5"). You can refer to it stealthily, without carrying a big map that proclaims "I'm a tourist". It is sturdily bound with a plastic, not paper, cover that holds up to years of use. I first saw it when I stopped to ask directions of a policeman in Paris, and he pulled it from his pocket to find the street I was looking for. That was all the endorsement I needed, and I bought one soon after. I have used it for 4 or 5 years.
The book includes a general plan of the city with subways and bus lines shown on separate maps, an alphabetical index and grid reference for every street in the city. Following the index are 20 maps, one for each arrondissement. Warning: The print on these maps is small and can be hard to read except when the light is strong. That's why I gave this otherwise excellent book 4 instead of 5 stars. There is also an excellent section of maps and indexes for the city's major suburbs.
The last section of the book includes complete listings with addresses and phone numbers of police stations, fire houses, government offices, embassies, post offices, hospitals, churches, monuments, museums, even parking lots.
This is good value for the money. Your $25 investment will last a long time. If you love Paris, or just have to do business there, you'll love this book.

I lived in Paris for a year as an American college student in 1985. This little book went with me every single day and as I found out even the French, police and the life long Parisians carried it with them. So know I am going back 20 years later and the first thing I did was buy a new copy!

This book is excellent - but before you order it, please know you can find it everywhere (i.e., bookstores, tobacs, souvenir shops along the Seine, etc.) in Paris for 7 Euros (about $9 US). Why pay $35? Well, if you want to look up information in it before your trip, maybe it's worth it.

I just returned from Paris and replaced my old copy which didn't have newer attractions such as Musee Branly and Velib stations. My new copy is a gorgeous red, and includes translations in English, Spanish, Italian, and Russian of key sections: the summary contents page and the famous monuments descriptions. If you buy it in Paris, you can look at the various versions, which have slight differences such as which languages and supplementary material are included, and also choose the color you want.

Bought a copy of this when I was in Paris in 1990. I could not have survived without it! We'll be returning to France (hooray!) in the Spring, and I'm ordering the new copy to take with us. I have been to Paris many times, and would not travel without this book. This is the best $25 you will spend if you're Paris-bound. Don't hesitate to add this to your list of must-haves for your trip!!!

This is all you need to navigate Paris. Whether there for a week or a year this book is a trusty companion. I bought mine while living in Paris in 94 - I do have to echo the reviewer who found the print small - it must have shrunk over the past twelve years. Bring one of those flat flexible magnifiers and slip it inside the cover - no unwieldy fold-out maps and the subsequent indignance of being an obvious tourist, flip disceetly through this book anywhere instead. If you forget to buy it ahead of time it is sold in most Tabacs.

This is a wonderful guide - I used it everyday on a recent visit to Paris. Given that many Paris streets change their name every block, this is essential.

I am surprised that more online (and brick and mortar) retailers do not carry this guide. I went to Europe (Paris being one of my destinations) for the first time last summer. Before going on a trip, I seriously do my homework. I go through the latest travel guides, read the online blogs, watch videos, revisit the history, talk to friends, etc etc.

This simply is the BEST MAP you can have on hand while in Paris. It is the most DETAILED map you can have of Paris, bundled in a very TRAVEL FRIENDLY size (note, there are different sized versions...some the size of an iphone 4S...but thinner...and others the size of a Reader's Digest). Another reviewer correctly states that the print can be small but I also have to say the guide is very INTUITIVE and where most maps leave out the smaller streets, this map will tell you exactly where you are. The guide is intuitive because it has a street index and the maps are also arranged by arrondisement (district).

This little book is NOT a travel guide though. It has no recommendations for restaurants, hotels and things to do.

I am a very satisfied Amazon Prime User but will admit you can find this book in any Parisian street/subway magazine vendor's stall for less than 10 euro (about 8 bucks) versus the thirty five or so dollars you have to pay in the US. The booklets are usually in blue and say "Plan De Paris" in big letters and "Par Arrondisement" in smaller letters. That said at about eight bucks, this is also the BEST VALUE of all the maps you could hope to find.
