2.0 out of 5 stars Should've bought the more expensive model
My parents bought this for our daughter's 3rd birthday. I really wish I would have chipped in and just gotten one of the more expensive models of Plan Toy dollhouse.

The problem: The design makes it too closed off and dark, because it is so deep. It is really hard to get to from the front, you have to play with it from the sides. The bottom floor is dark...

Our 2 1/2 yr old daughter loves this dollhouse! We bought it because it's the perfect combination of simplicity in its form, quality and detail. The craftmanship of the dollhouse is solid and well made, with two sliding windows on the front and a great balcony! The quality of the furniture is second to none -- excellent craftsmanship/attention to detail and the Plan Toys family is poseable so you can bend them into whatever position needed (sitting, standing, lying down, etc.) The one gripe is that the dollhouse and the basement don't lock together -- the house slides off a bit (maybe an 1") from the base when you move it (though not completely because it's partially locked). It's not the end of the world though, if it really bothers me, I'll glue them together.

It's a dollhouse that she can grow with and I guess we'll eventually replace when she's 8 or 9 with something more complex/detailed. We bought it through Imagine the Challenge, a merchant partner of Amazon, and they had a great deal on the house, the basement and all the furniture. Also, it was easy to assemble -- took this non-mechanically-inclined Dad about 1/2 hour to put it all together.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Indestructible Dollhouse - Best buy for Toddlers Boys & Girls, June 20, 2007

Easy to assemble. I was amazed at how sturdy & solid this dollhouse is. The quality is excellent and it is very large. I got it on Amazon during some crazy sale for $22 and expected to get what I paid for: a so-so but serviceable toy. I wasn't even expecting the greatest quality for what I paid, even though it was Brio. Was I wrong. The wood is SOLID hardwood, not the thin, easily breakable wood stuff of my son's Ryan's Room Firehouse.

Given the price, I bought two and painted the triangle & rectangle front pieces pink & white for my daughter and red and blue for my son and left the rest natural. They look fantastic.

It is the perfect first dollhouse for a young child/toddler. We will invest in a "fancier," prettier one for my daughter when she is older, but it doesn't get any more perfect than this for a 3-year old. My son loves that he has a "clubhouse" for the guys (Spidey, SuperDude, his Ninja Turtles). It has even spent some time being the Bat Cave, an army barracks, an animal rescue center and a Dino-Safari headquarters.

I can't even imagine how enormous it will be when we add the basement. Best toy I have purchased for a toddler overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars sturdy wooden dollhouse, January 9, 2007

I bought this for my 4 and 2 year old daughters for Christmas. I was very happy with how easy it was to assemble and how sturdy it is. I bought this because it looked like it wouldn't break the first time they played with it, and I'm pleased that it is up to my expectations. It is open on two sides, so it makes it easier for my girls to play at the same time. Good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent first (and non plastic) dollhouse, April 8, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

This is an excellent first doll house for a young child. We bought it for our son's (yes, son!) third birthday after watching him enjoy playing make-believe with every doll house he saw at a variety of toy stores. This one has some great features: easy to access all the rooms; made out of wood; is not made in China; the Plan Toys factory (Thailand) it's made in is very aware of safety standards and has a good track record. It was easy to assemble, took about 15 minutes. It's sturdy and is standing up well to lots of play time - some of it not terribly gentle. There are myriad rooms of furniture and accessories available, so this won't grow boring. Great value; great learning tool. Very pleased with this product.

My daughters are 7 and 4 years old, and they love making up stories with dolls. This dollhouse is the perfect place to stage these stories! It is definitely NOT just for pre-schoolers.

It's a very pretty and simple, open house that inspires a lot of imaginative play. We love it.

The bottom floor is dark in real life, unlike the professionally lit photo. You have to put this in the center of the room or think about the lighting - and who wants to worry about lighting for a toy?

My daughter loved it at first, and played quite a bit, but she doesn't have any furniture on the bottom floor, and she as often as not is playing with the people, not necessarily the house. Now that we've had it a month, she doesn't play with it that often.

What's good about it:

It is a good size, not too big, not too small.
It is sturdy and well-made.
Like all Plan Toys, you don't have to worry about toxic chemicals.
It was easy enough to put together.
When she was given the toy, her cousins were there - 2yo girl, 4yo boy & 6yo boy. All four children immediately started playing with it.

But it worked because we were outside, and it was on a table so they could descend from all sides. The eldest noticed the lack of stairs - as another reviewer mentioned. I have a feeling we'll have to buy a different model in a couple of years as she gets bigger, so that's why I wish I spent more now and had something we could use for years and years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Durable Product, July 13, 2010

My little one just inherited the house alone with the furniture from our friend's daughter who had had it for years. I could not believe how new this house and all the furniture looks!!! There is no paint or stain used, or hardly any on the furniture. This gives me a great peace of mind. Who knows what kind of toxic chemicals might be included in a paint. I would play with the house myself. Great-great quality.

Please note, this house does not include the furniture. However, when you buy it separately, you will love it. Good luck and enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and simple, but slightly confusing, June 19, 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

This dollhouse is very good for the younger ages. It is big and simple and easy to access. I have several toys from Plan Toys and all of them are made well and look nice. My son is 2.5 and enjoys this house. BUT, there is one thing that bothers me and you may want to reconsider this model once you know. There are no stairs in this house. Littler kids don't notice, but older kids will. When they are trying to mimic real life and enjoy how realistic everything is, it is not going to make sense that there isn't a way to get up/down stairs! When my son is older, I may rig up some stairs which go on the outside of the house (which will look like a fire-escape to me) in order for things to be "in order". Well anyway, it's a good dollhouse, but it has this design flaw.

My daughter is 27 months old and really loves this dollhouse. It's simple and open, so her imagination really takes over. The large openings in the roof and walls are perfect for her to be able to play easily in every room. We've only had it for 1 month, but it appears to be well made durable.

my toddler loves this house. i bought some plan furniture, some calico kitties and a little plan "family" -- and it's also fun to improvise and find things around the house that the kitties can use as furniture. she spends literally hours playing w/ this house. got it for christmas, put it together in about 15 mins, and set it down on a little table -- it's been the #1 draw ever since. love the fact that it's wood, and the open walls make for easy access to the inside rooms.
