My daughter's are 12 months and almost 3 years old. We previously purchased my daughter a workbench type toy but she never seemed interested in it. We purchased this as a travel toy...meaning something to take along on a long plane ride. She LOVED it. She kept unscrewing and rescrewing the pieces on in different patterns. It was nice that they included two bolts as my younger daughter likes to hold the other...not interested in the act of screwing the pieces on or off yet. I love the fact that it is a larger toy, I thought they would be smaller, but they are a good weight as well and I don't have to worry about it being a choking hazard for the younger one. The only thing is that I wish it included more pieces to screw on and off. I would definitely buy it again as a present for another child.

I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday and he likes screwing and unscrewing the pieces into different designs. He especially likes the yellow pieces( his fav. colour). I like that it helps refine fine motor skills of finger dexterity and bilateral coordination. I am glad that is is eco-friendly an child safe. Highly recommend. Fits nice in pocketbook and diaper bag too. Keeps him busy at doctor's office, restaurants, and anywhere else you don't want them wondering around. Plan Toys is one of the few "e-zero" companies.

This nuts and bolts toy is very cute and can lend itself to all sorts of imaginative configurations. However, the pieces, especially the first nut you put on, requires so much spinning. Even I find it a bit annoying and frustrating to spin the piece all the way on. The pieces are big and chunky, which is great for little hands & developing fine motor control skills. With only eight pieces in total, it is much more manageable and inviting than a big bucket of small plastic nuts and bolts.

I work as an ABA therapist for toddlers on the Autism Spectrum. I purchased this set from all the wonderful reviews. I've since brought this along to many sessions with a wide range of kids between 2-3 years old, and not one child has taken to it. Again, I think its because of how much work it requires to get the pieces on - they quickly lose interest and put it down. It's much better suited for a child who already knows how to use nuts and bolts and can use it for creativity/pretend play. You can make lots of adorable configurations that (I think) look like people.

The quality of the pieces themselves (and with Play Toys in general) is top notch.

Well made product, no rough or dangerous edges. My son is 2 yrs old and has a hard time screwing the pieces on, but that is the whole point, in time his dexterity and coordination will get better.I think he will have a lot of fun wit these over the next year or two :)

WOW despite the other reviews, I thought these would be on the smaller side - a nice travel toy to keep busy while away from home but they may be too big for that. They are much bigger than I thought they would be - they are more like building block sized pieces. Love the toy & very nice quality.

I think this is a wonderful learning toy and bought it for my son at around 20 months of age. It was a little advanced for him at that age, and even at 36 months, he rarely plays with it, despite being very "mechanically-minded". We have a lot of Plan toys & this one probably has gotten the least amount of play time. I still love it though! But my toddler recommends the cactus game over this toy.

I got this toy for my 16 month old even though I knew the twisting/screwing part was too advanced for him. He likes trying to put the stick into the hole on the wooden pieces, which encourages hand-eye coordination (as well as patience! lol) and he has become quite good at this! I help him put the pieces together and he likes handing me the next one to screw on. He sat and played with the pieces for about 20-25 minutes, watching me put them together and take them apart while trying to do the same. It was cute. He wanted to see each configuration for himself and hold and touch it. At his age, he also liked banging the pieces together to make noise. He laid all the pieces out on the floor and used the stick to bang the ball-end on each piece like it was a hammer.

The pieces are solid, well made, smooth and obviously good quality. After all the banging he did, I couldn't tell that there was any wear; not one scratch or ding in the finish. They are very durable.

I took these to church and a friend of mine who has a little girl who is 37 months old loved these and sat and played with them for nearly an hour! She screwed and unscrewed them and enjoyed making different configurations and being imaginative. My friend asked where I got these so she can order some for her daughter who loved them so much. I'm glad to see that my little guy likes this toy now and it will grow with him as his skills grow and expand for more play time fun.

Great quality, safe toy for young children. I love that it is all wood, eco-friendly, uses non-toxic paint and is from a reputable company. I highly recommend this toy!

I know the box says 2+ years on this toy, but my son at 17 months is mega interested in unscrewing the caps off lotion bottles, etc. I brought out this toy on a day where he was feeling yucky with a cold and wanting to sit on my lap. Although he was frustrated with it, he did like playing with it and it entertained him for about 20 minutes straight, which is great for him. He is just now getting to the point where he will let us read to him, so I thought it was a good time to introduce this. At 17 months he can turn the toy when it is loosened, but he keeps trying to pull it apart instead of unscrewing the pieces. I calmly explain to him that you have to twist it, and make his hands do the motion. He likes banging the two toys together also. This is a nice, sturdy toy that will not chip or dent easily. I feel good knowing the paint is safe. These are nice and large which makes them easier to turn, but hard for small hands to hold onto. Like I said, he will grow into this and by 2 should be better equipped to understand it. Right now it is frustrating, but hopefully it will be that much more alluring to him.
