if you play with this toy WITH your child at first soon they will get the hang of it and start making their own modifications. It's not a "here's a toy go play" toy though.

This is a very engaging toy. My daughter loves the brightly colored pieces and really enjoys putting the screws into the different holes and making "trains" or "planes" or whatever else the shapes remind her of. The directions for building specific PlanToys vehicles are much too hard for her to follow, and indeed I'm not sure she's supposed to follow them on her own. She just likes using this set for imaginative play. The great thing about the suggested vehicles is that it keeps me interested. So we're both working side by side while I build from the directions and she gets interested in the bits and pieces I'm fiddling with and takes them to build her own imaginary constructs. It's not what the toymakers intended, but we have a blast.

I'm thinking of getting a second set just so I can keep building the different vehicles and she can crib all the pieces she wants!!!

Although this toy looks like it could be very entertaining and educational it was very frustrating, even for grandma and quickly put down by a four year old. Unfortunately the long bolts, the red ones, do not fit properly into the toy. It was impossible to build even one of the many figures pictured in the directions. My young grandson gave up quickly when he was unable to make it work. Too bad, it could have been hours of building fun.

This toy is just OK, hard to figure out what to do with all the parts. Some crews do not any of the holes. The kids played with it just a few times over the years.
