5.0 out of 5 stars Little Tou Banjo
My son has CP. and he loves watch his Daddy play his banjo, at times he'll let Patrick strum the strings and in doing so Patrick get excided as well as having to use fine motor skills which is so hard from him.

Patrick also has a hard time holding on to things but the little banjo is built in such a way that he's able to hold it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love Plan Toys, but not this banjo
This banjo is very cute, but it really doesn't make any music. The strings make a dull thump noise, but that's about it. My 1 and 2 year olds don't play with it at all. I was disappointed because we love our other Plan Toys.

I ordered this for my son's birthday. He LOVES all stringed instruments and his grandpa plays a banjo. I really like the practices of Plan Toys and thought this was a really adorable, durable looking instrument. When it finally arrived (the shipping was delayed) I was suprised at how small the box was, expecting it to be bigger (its actually pretty tiny). I took it out of the box and it just looked dirty. The glue used to attach the membrane has seeped through leaving a nasty dark stain on what was supposed to be a bright pretty red face. But the biggest disappointment of all was that I had bought it almost exclusively on the merits of the "four tune-able strings". Now, maybe I'm crazy, but i just assumed that this meant that the banjo could be tuned to play actual notes... or a least something that sounds like a note... but all this does is thud. And a dinky little thud at that. No tuning. Nothing. Not quite sure what they meant. You can't even tighten the strings, they stay as they come. I was really sad. I returned it.

Now when his daddy is playing his banjo Patrick is making noise right along with him with his little banjo.

That little toy banjo brings him as well as us such joy.

I had other toys by "Plan toys" and I really like them, but I was disappointed with the banjo, I was hoping for a better sound, something closer to a real instrument..I guess it's just a toy, cute and well done but just a toy.

This is a commercial grade banjo, let me tell you. My son pulls the strings into one slot constantly and they are still very taut. It doesn't really make any good music at all as there is no hole, but it shows him good form in holding it and he plucks along like a dying chicken. We have had this toy for almost a year and it has taken some serious abuse. if it sounded better I would have given it five stars.

Love this banjo! My son loves playing on it and drumming on the sides. Very durable and fun (although it doesn't sound nearly as good as a "real" banjo but it's a toy afterall).

This toy has single handedly made me skeptical of Plan Toy's products. It is not a musical instrument. It makes no music. As other reviewers say, it just thuds. Quietly. My son loves music and playing with a real banjo. This doesn't offer him anything.

I love the material and durability. The music that it makes sounds terrible. I wish I could adjust the strings. Maybe that would help, but they do not adjust. My daughter was bored very quickly because we could not make real music with it.

To my 20-month-old grandson, everything is a "tar" (guitar)...a fork, a hairbrush, a flyswatter...anything with a handle and something larger at the other end! How cute is that!? We bought this Banjo for Easter and although he played with it some, it seems he's still a little young to "get it". His mom and I had more fun with it but I'm still so pleased with the purchase. I trust he'll (mentally) grow into it, especially because it also is a drum and the black wooden ball at the top moves and makes an added percussive sound. It's wonderfully made and will be an heirloom, for sure! I will definitely look to purchase Plan Toys in the future for my other young grandchildren.

I got this for my grandson's first birthday 3 years ago. He got several musical toys for children and this is the only one that didn't hold his interest. It doesn't produce any musical notes and just "plunks". It's well made and he had a better time tapping it with the stick from his drum set.
I had forgotten about it until I started Christmas shopping Amazon for my *new* granddaughter and it was a suggested buy. Plan Toys makes many nice, durable toys for kids and my grandkids have several, but the banjo is played with the least.
