Product Description

The Airport comes with a two-storey airport terminal, flight control tower, and an elevator that moves between the ground level and the second floor. The car park is onthe ground floor and the second floor features the check-in counter, luggage conveyor belt, and the jet way to the plane. This play set includes an airplane, cargo truck and trailer, a pilot and an airport agent figure.

Playtime Ideas:

• Playing will help them recognize the various activities that take place at an airport and the roles of the pilot, agent and the passenger. They can move the cargo carrier up the ramp to the conveyor belt where the luggage is loaded onto the plane, see where the agent checks the passengers' tickets, and roll the airplane close to the terminal.
• Children can create fun and imaginative stories while they play. They can simulate a landing by placing the attendant in the control tower to talk to the pilot, holding the plane up in the air and then circling in for a perfect landing.
• Parents can extend their children's learning by explaining the functions of the airport, and the roles of its personnel. This set can be expanded with extra accessories like the Turboprop Airplane (6046), the Helicopter (6060) the Service Crew (6041) extra Cars (6024) and Trucks (6022) and any of the PlanToys Family figures.

My two-year old son received this for a Hanukkah gift and it exceeded our high expectations. Plan Toys and the Plan City items in particular are well-crafted toys designed for open-ended imaginative play and the airport is no exception. My son loves playing with the ramps, the baggage conveyor belt, and (most of all) the working elevator. I like knowing that the toys are safe and manufactured with an eye toward sustainability. We started our son's collection with the Plan City Road and Rail Deluxe and have enjoyed adding Plan City elements to the train table as he grows.

One more thing: a previous reviewer noted that the roof is made of foam. This is not the case with this item purchased December 2010. The roof, like the rest of the toy, is made of rubber wood. I'm wondering if this is the distinction between the "City Series" airport and the other Plan City airport available on amazon or if there has simply been a redesign.

I'll admit it--I'm a sucker for Plan toys. They are pricey; however, I appreciate that they are fun, educational and free of the usual chemical garbage that comes with most conventional (plastic) toys. Like all our other Plan playsets, this one is very sturdy and stands up well to the rigors of preschool play.

It is small, to be sure. I've noticed that all of the Plan city series toys are pretty little. However, this doesn't deter my kids from playing with them and it's actually fine with me because the toys don't take over the play room. (Note to Plan: It would be GREAT if you would make the country and city series toys the same size! It's no fun to have the giant farm set next to the teensy airport and parking garage!)

The roof on this one is made with a foam rubber-type material. At first I was concerned that this would be destroyed; however, it has held up quite well. The only possible issue is that the little wooden ramps do come off quite easily. My kids like this; however, if it bothers you, it's easily fixed with a little wood glue.

We got this for our nephew for Christmas and it was a real hit. It's rather expensive, but beats all the plastic versions of this kind of toy by a mile. We added a helicopter and an extra plane because it only came with one plane. In general, we love plan toys and buy them when we can afford to.
