Planar's remarkably affordable PDP-42BK 42-inch gas-plasma television lets you connect to a broad range of entertainment sources, displaying images from devices including progressive-scan DVD players, DTV set-top receivers, video cameras, and gaming consoles. This is an EDTV (enhanced-definition) set with 852 x 480 native pixel resolution, a step closer to full HDTV than standard sets. Out to set a new standard for large-screen viewing and versatility, this display combines enhanced brightness, contrast ratio, and low power consumption with ultra-performance imaging features such as video de-interlacing and scaling using acclaimed DCDi technology from Faroudja for spectacular picture quality.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the PDP-42BK is a mere 3.2 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen).

Connections include composite-video, S-video, and component-video inputs along with an RGB computer signal input (DVI-I with analog adapter) for dual-purpose home theater/home office applications.

The PDP-42BK also lets you view multiple images at once through its picture-in-picture (PIP) feature, and you can use the remote control to zoom in and out of images and freeze images onscreen.
