A Plane Tree,
This review is from: A Plane Tree in Provence (Kindle Edition)
A Plane Tree in Provence I enjoyed reading the book "A Plane Tree" by Arlene Rains Graber. The enormous Plane tree in Provence surrounded with women hand-in-hand was the image that first caught my eye and drew me in. Arlene's well written story telling then brought to life the individual characters of the five women traveling to Provence. Real life stories came to life from each of the women and their adventures in France. I was particularly drawn to the discoveries that the women learned about each other as well what they learned as they planned for what was to occur in their travels. The story of what brought these disparate women together as new friends through their discoveries and they more difficult moments created a deeper understanding of who they each were as well as who were these new-found friends. The places, scenery, and excursions were very well described; it made you want to be there and sometimes made you even feel that you were the sixth friend enjoying the same things the friends felt. There were some many surprises along the way that made the story more real and inviting. The story gave an understanding of how five very bright and successful women could understand themselves better and relate to others who might be or see things differently.

The descriptions of Provence were incredible -- I have never been but now want to go!
I related with the characters and want to share this book with my female friends as a reminder that we need to take time to nurture our relationships with each other!! A very enjoyable read from front to back with a wonderful message to today's woman!

A Plane Tree in Provence I've never traveled to France, but reading Arlene Graber's "A Plane Tree in Provence," lets me enjoy the trip as if I had been there.
Graber's subtle introduction of each of the four women traveling with Wendy, revealing both their good points and their painful problems, puts me in their walking shoes. If I spied them in a sidewalk cafe, I'd immediately recognize them. With vivid words, Graber also draws a lovely map of the area. I'll know my way around if I book Provence for a vacation. While allowing themselves to become vulnerable, these women share their problems, drop judgmental attitudes, and lend a shoulder for comfort. Were there affairs of the heart? With a handsome, attentive man working the nearby grape harvest, what do you think? |
