MVT!!!-Most Valuable Tool!!,
By A Thoughtful Consumer (Southern Calif) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Planer Type Shinto Saw Rasp (Misc.)
Well..second most valuable tool, next to the cordless drill. This is the most awesome hand tool for wood working. It's a series of double sided hacksaw blades that are cleverly riveted parallel to each other. A quick release handle is easily attached and the blades become a very aggressive rasp. The handle can be removed, the blades flipped over. Once the handle is easily replaced the rasp now has a fine bite. The rasp cuts almost as quickly as a plane but you have much more control of the cut and you don't need to worry about tear outs-it works well in either direction. Fantastic job on end grains. The fine bite side cleans up the scratches left by the coarse side. Amazon features the saw rasp configured as a plane but there is another version which is a file/rasp with the handle permanently attached to the saw blades. Both setups have their jobs and I would recommend having both. I've used them to put hardwood and laminate floors in, exotic wood kitchen cabinets, even down to straightening 2x4s for smooth drywall installations. I have been using both of mine for 15 years with great pleasure. The rasps have a prime place in my tool box.
