Best Bisco Studio Effort Yet,

I'm an old school Disco Biscuits fan. I was taping their shows back in the late 90's with only a 100 or so people in the audience. The Disco Biscuits put on great live shows, but their studio albums have always been lacking, with the notable exception of Uncivilized Area.Planet Anthem is nothing like their live shows, so its going to annoy a lot of "fans," but honestly most jamband studio albums turn out bad anyway. Planet Anthem is mix of jamband, jazz, hiphop, techno and has a lot of guest vocalists too. It reminds me of a blend of Radiohead, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, and a jamband. I highly recommend Planet Anthem. If you go in to this Album with an open mind, you're going to love it.

Solid effort from a band willing to take risks,

This album is no doubt a departure from typical Disco Biscuit material. They truly mix it up with everything from hip-hop and jazz to straight up rock and borderline pop at times. It's hard to not bob your head and sing along to On Time which can hold its own at just about any bar or club and Fish Out of Water ventures into almost Weezer territory. The City is probably my favorite track...but time will tell as to songs stand up in the live setting. Many long time fans will likely snub this album at first, but if its listened to for what it is (music) and not how Disco Biscuity the music is - it really holds up. My favorite classic live songs raged out on a recording wouldn't turn out as good as this album. Job well done gentlemen.

I like this album. The first time I listened to it I did not. I thought is sounded like 303. I think that every Disco Biscuits Album is different, and if you expect something similar to their live shows you will be disappointed. Senor Boombox is my favorite though. Everyone likes uncivilized area, but I think that album is very generic and sounds like every other jam band 10 years ago. The Disco Biscuit are keeping it fresh now, and its not like there pumping out a new album every year like moe., this is there first one in 8 YEARS! Bravo gentlemen.

I realize that this is a studio album, so it will stray from their usually live performances. However, the Disco Biscuits are about throwing down nasty beats that gets everyone moving. This album doesn't do that, save 3 songs. You and I is their 'big hit' in the sense that it got on MTV, but it's a horrible pop song, in fact most of the album sounds like bad pop music, or weak attempts at rap. If you like the biscuits then don't buy this album. |
