What a beautiful planet it is.,
By Nuisance "the rebel" (Miami) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Planet of da Apes [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Da Lench Mob's first album(Guerrillas In The Mist) was great, this one is even better. The album starts of with Ice Cube's Last Poetesque Scared Lil N**** poem. Then its starts off with Chocolate City a pretty good opener. Cut Throats which features Mack 10 is hard egded banger where everybody brings dope rhymes to the table. The title track, Planet Of Da Apes is laid back west coast joint where they drop some gems here and there. Mellow Madness featuring Ice Cube and K-Dee is a hip hop gem by itself. On the track everybody brings heat to the table over the Hollywood Squares instrumental. Environmental Terrorist is fire plus the rapid fire delivery of Q T was sick. As for flaws, I cant find any. I listened to this album straight through without skipping once. Bottom Line: Da Lench Mob's Planet Of Da Apes is unquestionable a highlight of 1994. Da Lench Mob still gives you gems on tracks like Planet Of Da Apes, Environmental Terrorist, Trapped, King Of The Jungle etc, the production is even better than before. Its miles beyond the bull**** that we hear today(bunch of nonrapping idiots babbling about street cred). I recommend to anybody who can find it. Standout Tracks: CUT THROATS, KING OF THE JUNGLE, PLANET OF DA APES, GOIN BANNANAS, MELLOW MADNESS, ENVIRONMENTAL TERRORIST, SET THE S*** STRAIGHT and TRAPPED. As for the brokeback mountaineer talking reckless, do you get your nuts off on being the dumba$$ that you are? Even if you knew what the real definition of racism was you would still toss the word racist around like a hot potato. Stupid as hell and dont see no shame in that. F*** you and the duplicitous coward that agreed with you. Musky a** f@ggots!

Decent album,

You can really see the development of the west-coast "sound" on albums
of this year (1994). This album is notable for students of the genre for this alone. Lyrically the Da Lench Mob continue to bring their same brand of hard hitting social commentary, community upliftment with some humor thrown in. The vocals of J-Dee are sorely missing here though. Pick this up if you are a fan of later 90's west coast sound in Hip-Hop.

rather limp,

Lacks the energy and humour of Guerrillas in tha Mist. Features more real instruments and female vocals - not my cup of tea really. GITM is a classic rap album; this is not.
