Book Description

Planet Architecture Series May 2002
Taliesin West served as Frank Lloyd Wright’s studio, school of architecture, and home during the last decades of his life. This sprawling complex in the Arizona desert is universally recognized as a modern masterpiece and represents the summation of his ideals of "organic architecture" – an approach to building "appropriate to place, time, and man."

In order to better understand the enduring significance and meaning of Taliesin West, Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer, Director of the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives, provides an in-depth overview of Wright’s life and career in a one-hour video interview. In a second video overview, Pfeiffer focuses on Taliesin West, discussing its origins and ongoing evolution, innovative use of materials and construction methods, and provides an intimate portrait of the building from the perspective of someone who has lived and worked there for over 50 years. Both video commentaries are profusely illustrated with historical photographs and drawings from the FLLW Archives, and the Resources Section of this CD-ROM represents the most comprehensive documentation of Taliesin West ever assembled in a unique combination of photographs, 360 degree virtual reality panoramas, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s drawings (sketches, plans, sections, elevations, and details).

CD-ROM contents:
1-1/2 hours of video interview with Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer.
228 photographs (current and archival).
15 360 degree virtual reality panoramas.
113 drawings from the FLLW Archives.

The Planet Architecture series has transformed learning about architecture into an experience that is personal and fun. Combining an easy-to-use interface with a self-directed format that allows users to learn in a way that best suits their personal learning style, Planet Architecture e-archives provide a highly detailed perspective into the most important architects of our time via a comprehensive collection of videos, photographs, VR panoramic views, drawings, and renderings unequalled by any other medium.
