5.0 out of 5 stars Affordable and reliable
This bike pump is great for the price. The gauge is clearly visible and the ease of pumping makes it a great value. I would definitely recommend this pump for road bike users or any other for that matter (going up to 100-110 psi was easy). All around, an excellent product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent pump w/ drawbacks
I got this pump in november and have been using it to pump up a road bike w/ presta valves. The pump doesn't get good marks for looks - it's a cheap plasticy device. But generally it works well. There's a nice gauge for PSI and the barrel is long enough. The handle is not padded, so I suggest wearing bike gloves when pumping of your hands will get bruised...

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Pump at a Great Price, September 2, 2008

Based on the price I paid I expected a product of basic quality. However, I am surprised by the quality of the design and it seems to be solidly built. The adjustable arrow on the air pressure indicator is a nice feature as it keeps me from forgetting what my max pressure is and blowing up the tube.

I'm no expert on bike pumps (first one I've owned) but it does the job and is well constructed - so I would strongly reccomend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars inexpensive pump that does the job, November 10, 2008

This floor pump works as it should. The nozzle seals onto the tire valve with a flick of a lever. You can pre-set the desired air pressure on the pressure dial/gauge so you can easily monitor the progress of inflating. The ergonomically-designed love handles prevent stress on the wrists. Within minutes my tires are properly inflated and I'm ready to roll. Will accomodate Presta and schrader tire valves (but there's no attachment for inflating a basketball). I can't predict this pump will last for a decade, but I'm very pleased that it accomplishes a simple task very well.

When I first took this out of the box I was a little concerned at just how light the unit was. But after having now used it several times I have to admit it does the its job just fine and seems to actually be pretty sturdy. I have bikes with both Schrader and Presta valves and the nozzle clamps on to both very nicely and more importantly disengages quickly when your done inflating your tire. The gauge seems to be accurate enough and the little adjustable indicator is a nice feature. All in all I would recommend this pump.

There's a nice gauge for PSI and the barrel is long enough. The handle is not padded, so I suggest wearing bike gloves when pumping of your hands will get bruised.

By far the biggest issue I've had is with the valve mechanism. And this applies to ALL of planet bike's pumps because they all use the same valve part.

1) the rubber seal can get shredded and not work well - my valve now flies off the tire at >80psi, so I'm buying a new valve. It should not have worn out so quickly, but at least you can get a replacement for cheap (at planet bike's website or on amazon).

2) The lever to activate the seal is *very* stiff. It requires a good deal of force to flip it up to seal the valve. But far worse is flipping down, after a little tug, the lever slams down. You have to have your hand there to flip it, and if your fingers are in the way, you will get really bad bruises, and that's just bad design. Think of the finger injury on par with slapping someone except at the last minute their face is replaced with a steal plate. Pretty bad.

3.0 out of 5 stars WARNING for Presta valves! :(, May 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Planet Bike Ozone Comp Floor Pump (Sports)
Bought this to replace an old Planet Bike pump so I'm used to the dual valve attachment of the hose. When I first tried it, it got stuck on my presta valve and as I was trying to loosen it to get it out, my inner tube sprang a leak at the base of the valve so I had to replace the tube. I didn't think I was putting too much force (I'm a small lady) and hoped it was just the inner tube, but for the life of me I couldn't get the hose to attach to the valve correctly to function and I gave up before I caused another flat. I used my schrader adapter on the presta valve instead, and the pump worked fine (got up to 110 psi and felt like I could do more without issue).

Not worth the hassle if you want a good PRESTA pump, but definitely good for schrader. I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning it since it's okay for the price, JUST DON'T GET IT FOR PRESTA and you'll be fine. I'll use the adapter for now and might even try it again one day without it (if I feel like putting a hole in my tube again). :o)

Good luck!!!

p.s. main picture is the wrong pump, it's actually the one in the magnified picture (with the love handles)

1.0 out of 5 stars Will not hold up to constant use, June 24, 2009
This review is from: Planet Bike Ozone Comp Floor Pump (Sports)
This is the easily the worst pump I have ever owned. Apparently "Comp" = cheap tupperware like plastic. It also has no way to fasten the tubing to the pump, just some easy to lose paperclip attachment that holds the tubing on both ends. Anything over 100psi and the plastic barrel noticeably flexes. This is definitely not for inflating serious track or road tires. Spend the $5 extra and get the STX w/ a steel barrel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Low-cost but extremely useful pump, May 16, 2011

This is a six-month post-purchase review. I bought this floor pump last summer as a low-cost pump to maintain a good riding pressure in my road bike. I use my bike for my commute whenever possible, and take other rides often, so I use this pump at least once a week. It has fit my needs perfectly.

The plastic body does mean that this pump is light, and probably wouldn't stand up to being run over by a car. After six months of regular use, though, it has seen no damage. I can see this pump lasting me for quite a while longer. The contoured handle makes it downright easy for me to get to 120psi on my bike, and I'm fairly average when it comes to upper-body strength. Also, the dual nozzle means I can use this on my road bike with Presta valves, and some other family members' bikes with Schrader valves, without having to switch out parts.

My favorite feature, by far, is the integrated pressure gauge. It's got color-coded ranges for various types of bikes, but the best part is that there is a little pointer that you can move to the psi that you want attain. Then it's a simple matter to pump until the gauge meter lines up with that pointer, both of which are very easy to see while you're pumping. So you don't have to worry about over- or under-inflating your tires due to bad estimation, and you don't have to disconnect the pump, take a pressure reading, and then pump some more. It's a simple feature, but a really useful one.

So, to sum up: if you want an easy-to-use, versatile floor pump at a very reasonable price, look no further.

I bought this pump based on the good reviews here on amazon. In addition I liked the price and that the gauge is not positioned on the floor so it's easier to read.

I was initially disappointed because the pump is very lightweight and the base is a bit small, making it fairly unstable while pumping. I also found the head to be somewhat cheap and it's a bit finicky connecting to presta valves, which is what I mostly use it for. The head works much better with schraeder valves. It also took a long time to get used to the "love handle." Though after a while I did find that the angled grip and the ability to get some palms into the action was nice and easier on the hands.

One this I would consider a design flaw is that metal clip on the hose for storage -- after a year or so of use, the hose sprung a leak right where the clip hooks on. Fortunately I was able to order a replacement hose for ~$10 from my local bike shop (which didn't come with the clip).

Honestly, I would not buy this pump again. I might consider a different Planet Bike model if I could demo it in the store first but will most likely go with another brand.
