About Planet Bike
In November of 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, Wisconsin. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

I'm a year-round, all-weather, night-and-day bike commuter. I don't need the lightest, newest, top-grade drivetrain components or a custom titanium frame, and I'm not about to pay for them. But good lights are one thing I do need, and I don't mind paying top dollar for the added safety. (I have a top-of-the-line Dinotte combo for my bar/helmet lights.)

Happily, though, I don't seem to need to shell out big money for a tail light. I've tried various models, but this little guy is just the best. I could pay a LOT more and get the ridiculously bright Dinotte tail light, but why? This little Planet Bike is already insanely visible, and dirt cheap.

I've had mine (the Stealth) out in all weather, all year, and the thing just. never. fails. I see others have reported switch problems, but none here. Besides, they're so cheap, just buy 2; toss one in your blowout bag and you've got a backup tail light every bit as good as your main, that clips instantly onto the same mounting hardware. Buy the non-Stealth model for your backup. It's even cheaper.

A couple of other nice features:

1. It seems to be extremely easy on batteries. After several months, I finally changed mine out just because I thought surely they must be getting low.

2. The Stealth model really is virtually invisible when it's not blinkifying. Mine's mounted on one of my seat stays, and if you're not looking for it, you just don't see it.

In short, I love this thing. It's one of those extremely rare consumer products that does exactly what it should do, does it extremely well, and costs what it ought to: it's the Craftsman wrench of bicycle lights.

I bought this light after seeing it on another bike during the middle of the day... the blinding flasher was visible even in bright sunlight! And at night, it's killer good. Now that I've got it on my bike I run it night and day. It's good on batteries, and even if it wasn't , who cares? For the cost of a couple of triple A batteries this light does a great job of increasing my visibility and keeping me safe.

I've had the same commuting setup since '03 and it was time for a light update. The various Internet forums said this is the favored light right now, so I bit.

The good:
This light is awesomely bright compared to my old Cateye blinky from '03! Plus it only takes 2 AAA batteries so no more trying to figure out what to do with that odd battery.

The bad:
The mount is horrible. I have racks/panniers and use an under-seat bag when just around town for the usual essentials (spare tube etc).

My old blinky just has a threaded hole to screw it to the rack. 30 sec and you're done. This unit has a click quick release, so it needs to be taken off the bike every time you stop or it will walk away.

To add insult to injury, the stock light doesn't even come with a mount suitable for a rack. That's a $5 extra option. Between my rack and my saddle bag, there is no suitable place to mount the light with the hardware provided.

This is bad design for an easy problem and the reason for my 3 stars. Planet Bike, please drill a hole in the unit for those of us that just want to mount the darn thing and not have some quick release system.

I own several Superflashes. They're light, they're cheap, they're bright, and they have good battery life. The blinking mode is very visible but also very obnoxious to following bikes, but you can set them to solid on mode for group rides. And they're easy to mount to the seatstays, which is a convenient location on bikes that have a bag blocking the bottom of the seat and lack a rack or fender.

So why one star? Because they're not waterproof. In heavy rain, a Superflash will go out without warning, which can get you hit from behind and killed.

On a recent 400 km brevet, one rider had 2 Superflashes, which were both intermittently failing as water got in, then coming back on as the water drained out, then failing again. Luckily he had a third taillight that was more waterproof.

If you live where it rains at all and insist on using a Superflash, you should also use another taillight of a different type. But honestly I recommend not using these and using something else.

I have almost complete faith that, if I am seen by someone coming up behind me in a car, they will make at least a minimal effort to avoid hitting me. The trick then, is to make sure they see me.

The flash this light puts out is hard to miss. Unlike the blinky which just blinks a red light, this little light strobes a very bright white light and then blinks. It is very attention getting. It can readily be seen even in daylight. I recommend this for anyone who finds themselves riding at night, dusk, dawn or in cloudy weather.

It won't save you from drunks or psychopaths though, so keep an eye out for them.

Planet Bike 3034-1 Blinky Superflash .5 Watt LED with 2 Red LED Tail Lights (Black/Clear Case)
Great tail light for your bike for a good price... Look up some videos at YouTube if you don't believe how great it is. I recommment it to everyone who rides a bike. Sometimes I clip it to my backpack to make sure cars see me in the evening/night when walking at places without pavement.
To make sure... this is a red LED light, not a white one, it just has clear case. I also bought the one in red case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KBEH1W) and it works and looks the same (except the different color of the case). One is for my bro...
I'm very satisfied... 5 stars!
