5.0 out of 5 stars Convenient gauge
Outside dia of dial head is 1.95"; valve connector extends several inches for total end-to-end length of 4.5". Heavy, solid feel. Holds reading till release button is pressed--convenient. Reading agrees with that of new "pencil" style gauge (at 70-80 psi). Prefer to carry smaller, lighter "pencil" gauge when riding and use this gauge at home. I've used only with...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
I've come to like most Planet Bike products, but this is not one of them. The gauge works great for schrader valves. It creates a great seal and is very accurate. The push button reset is also very nice. Unfortunately, this thing is awful for presta valves, which is the reason I bought it. I've tried again and again and cannot seem to find a way to avoid losing 5-10 PSI...

I've come to like most Planet Bike products, but this is not one of them. The gauge works great for schrader valves. It creates a great seal and is very accurate. The push button reset is also very nice. Unfortunately, this thing is awful for presta valves, which is the reason I bought it. I've tried again and again and cannot seem to find a way to avoid losing 5-10 PSI when attaching it to the valve. It completely fails to create a good seal and you will lose more air pressure the longer it stays on the valve.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless for Presta valves, September 3, 2008

I concur with the gentleman who wrote another review on this that it is not possible to get a proper seal for presta valves. It is useless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear reading of bicycle tire pressure, October 9, 2010

This gauge gives me clear and precise reading of bicycle tire pressure. It takes a bit practice to learn how to use it without releasing too much air from the tires. The secret is in positioning it correctly over the valve and pushing it down in one quick move. Be sure to reset the dial before using it!

3.0 out of 5 stars initially more impressed than now, December 8, 2010

I've had this gauge for a year and have been using it on auto and bike tires. I've been pleased with its feel and accuracy, but recently the lens over the dial just came off while it was in my glove compartment! Minus two stars for durability...

4.0 out of 5 stars What's With the Bad Reviews?, October 30, 2010

I just picked up one of these from my LBS (local bike shop) for the same price. I have two bikes now. One takes typical Schrader valves - the other Presta valves. Works well on both. Yes, if you don't get lined up properly first - it will leak air. Practice makes perfect.

I've been looking for a portable gauge that works on Presta valves. I found one now. Remember - after getting the reading, you must push the button to reset to zero.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good with Presta valves, May 11, 2010
By
This review is from: Planet Bike The Dial Air Guage (Sports)
I looked at one of these at my local bike shop. It worked very well with Schrader valves. Very solid, air-tight seal. But, with Presta valves performance varied. A couple times I got a good seal. A couple times I couldn't get better than a light leak. And, a couple times it let a lot of air out.

EDIT: I wanted to add: This is a very solid, heavy item. It feels well made. If Planet Bike could improve the Presta capability I'd give it 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gauge...Great price..., March 31, 2011

Seems that allot of people who have bought this gauge are having trouble using it with their Presta valves. It works great for me...press it on, no air leaks then pull it off and press the button to reset it. Plain and simple and reliable....

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gauge for Schrader valves, June 11, 2010
This review is from: Planet Bike The Dial Air Guage (Sports)
I saw the other reviews saying this gauge doesn't work well with Presta valves. I have only standard/Schrader valves on my gear, and it works very well on them, so this is an ideal gauge for me.

It's got heft and feels well made. The dial is easy to read. And it stops on the reading until you press the release button to reset it.

I like that it is completely manual and non-electronic -- no having to replace batteries or deal with a too-fast automatic shutoff cycle. Plus it's easy to read in sunlight, unlike some digital gear.

2.0 out of 5 stars not useful with Presta valves, August 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Planet Bike The Dial Air Guage (Sports)
I have to agree with a few other reviewers: this gauge will not measure air in tires with Presta valves. It doesn't have anything to do with losing the little metal sleeve inside the Presta adapter, as one reviewer suggested. There is just something wrong with the fit of the adapter itself. Every time I made the attempt, the gauge would leak air. Never properly seated, the Presta adapter would measure some air but not nearly the amount I knew from looking was in the tire. The Schrader valve part of the gauge worked OK, but that's not what I bought it for. This one's going back.
