The Blinky "3H" is great, but don't miss making a combo with the Planet Bike Sport Spot 4 LED Bicycle Light with Head, and Handlebar Mounts as a headlight to mount on your helmet. With the Sport Spot on the front, it's fantastic to be able to point a light at drivers just by looking at them. Since the Blinky "3H" swings, it sort of flashes randomly without using the flash mode. (I use a separate flashing taillight attached to my backpack.) These lights are very light weight. I hardly know I have them mounted on my helmet. Most people who see me with them on my helmet think they're great. These two should be sold as a combo since the headlight takes three batteries, and the rear light takes one, so you can easily recharge four NiMH batteries at a time. The only deficiency on the Sport Spot headlight is that it's tough to get the mounting angle right with the limited places to strap it onto your helmet, so you might have to glue a little wedge on it to adjust the angle.

Another great night safety product is the Planet Bike BRT Strap Multi-Use LED Bicycle Safety Light. Nearly the whole strap (7" x 13/16" of it) glows or blinks bright red when it's turned on -- it appears as a yellow reflective surface when it's off. It works great. It's lightweight, easy to use and comfortable, plus fits in my hip-pack nicely. I use it as a leg-light (above my left calf) for night biking or late afternoon inline skating. Having a light move as you pedal, and highlight the left edge of your bike provides a major safety advantage.

The issue with LEDs is the focus of the lights. They can either be well seen vertically or horizontally, and all manufacturers design their LEDs with a broad horizontal pattern. This means if the light isn't perfectly level, it's virtually useless (check out the scores of different lights during a night ride).

While this isn't the brightest light out there, the fact that it is self-leveling makes it always in the right position and more visible than any other light. Unless you hard mount a light to your bike and make sure it's level, you're never gonna get the best projection of light. Besides, the higher up the light is, the easier it can be seen. No one who rides at night should be without this thing mounted to their helmet!

Down side - after four years of it bouncing around my helmet, the bracket kinda wore out (I attached it to a curved part, so there was stress on the bracket). Planet Bike sells a replacement kit for $5 - great customer insight on their part.

It's bright, it sits up high on your helmet but stays perfectly level, and so it's a real boon to safety. I used to have cars approach from behind and then turn in front of me until I got this light. Now it rarely happens. And a single AAA battery (included) lasts a pretty long time.

Press the button to flash (all three LEDs flash at the same time), hold them on, or turn them off. Use the included velcro-based elastic strap to attach to the holes in the back of your helmet.

Everyone should have one of these.

Bikers and car drivers would lean out and say they liked my helmet light, and I was using it in Manhattan, a place with enough distractions -- so now that mine finally broke I've been searching to make sure I get the same again, cause it just plain works well.

I live in a big city with lots of cars who arn't looking for me. After a near-miss where I had to throw myself into a controlled fall to avoid being hit by a truck that blew his stop sign and listening to the driver's lame "I didn't see you" excuse, I decided that I NEEDED this light.

As it's helmet-mounted it's up as high as can be and is about eye-level with the drivers behind you. The gimbaled action of the helmet mount keeps the light visable when ascending or decending hills. Also, the motion of the light created when the cyclist is in motion adds to its attention getting properties.

The light has two light patterns: Steady on or a single flash pattern. I wish it had a chasing option, but it doesn't :-(

Overall I love this light and am planning to buy another for my other helmet.

Very light and hardly noticable on the helmet. Mounting it was easy, although my helmet and the slots didn't exactly make it easy to mount. If you pull the strap too tight, it will slide off the loops, so it's a fine line between tight and too tight. Even after mounting it, it still moved around a bit, so I solved the problem by using a small piece of velco that had a tape backing on each side. Worked great! Held the light in place, yet I can still remove it during the summer months. As other reviewers have noted, it seems to work best if you leave it on Steady mode and as it moves around when you ride, it appears to flash due to the self leveling. I highly recommend it as a high mounted tail light.

Bright little light. I like the idea of the high-mounted light for better visibility, but the helmet mount doesn't fit my helmet very well. I'm a little worried about the durability of the mounting bracket, but it's holding up ok so far. We use this in addition to a regular light mounted on the seatpost for better visibility in intersections where you might be turning your head to look for cross-traffic. Two other things that keep me from giving it a higher rating, the self-leveling doesn't keep it perpendicular to the road, it points down slightly, making it harder to see from a distance and the power button on the back is very easy activate accidentally.
