Best inexpensive rack out there,
By
This review is from: Planet Bike Eco Rack Oversized 6061 T6 Aluminum Bike Rack with Pre-installed Hardware (Sports)
This is probably the best inexpensive rack out there especially for commuting: easy to install, takes bungees and baskets, good with most panniers out there, holds a u-lock really well too. Will stand up to light touring. Unless you're into long-distance, heavy touring, I doubt you'll need anything else.
This model is *not* for bikes with disc brakes. Some tips: spend two bucks at a hardware store bigger washers and tougher nuts and bolts; the supplied ones are fine, but not ideal for heavy use. You may need to bend the upper set of sliding arms to get the thing flat, but those don't carry any vertical weight anyways.

great product. company also donates 25% of its proceeds to charitable causes. made of recycled aluminum.
two minuses (but didnt make me want to give this less than 5 stars): 1) not oversized really. normal size-- didnt matter to me. 2) didnt come with instructions. easy enough, but I had to adjust it after realizing it was interfering with my chain. no problem ever since.

Great simple rack, easy to install, rugged, reasonably priced.
Made of recycled aluminium too! This thing will last as long as my bike.

Not a good choice for panniers,

Generally, this is a good rack for the money. But, it has a design flaw that I didn't notice until I tried to hang panniers from it. The rear support bar meets the rack platform about 1 inch before the end of the platform, folds and wraps around the back of the rack. There is an inch in the back where the aluminum tubes are doubled (look closely). This inch of double tube is not conducive to attaching panniers. So, the last inch of the rack is lost for attachment resulting in 1 inch less of heel clearance for the panniers.

This is not a bad rack at all. In fact, I can sit on this rack with my full weight (180 # on a good day). I would not want to ride my bike like that, but this rack will carry a lot more weight than stated.
Several reviewers have said, "This is not an over-sized rack." Read the description. It says that this rack (of normal size) is structured from over-sized tubular aluminum. I would have given this rack five stars but for this: It is hardly a universal fit. Of course, with hundreds of bike designs out there in the real world, what rack could fit everything? Really. I had to modify the front steel braces to fit into the screw hole of what I assume would be the rear fender mount, if I were to install a rear fender. Oh, here's a note of caution. The mounting kit comes with two shorter screws and two longer for attaching the bottom struts to the dropout. The longer screw might protrude into dangerous territory (ie, the location of your rear cassette and chain -- see pictures), and the shorter screw actually stripped the upper threads. I thereafter used the longer screw instead, and everything has worked well so far. The rack is very useful, lightweight, sturdy beyond specs, and truly a gem at this price. I would imagine with the included hardware that it would fit most bikes without much hassle.

Not for serious cyclists,

This is a fine rack if you ride once in a while, but if you use your bike to commute and shop and regularly carry panniers with you, this will not hold up for more than a few months. I got 6 months out of mine, riding 10-20 miles a day. For serious cyclist I recommend investing in a Tubus Cargo rack or something like it (aka, over $100 and steel).

High quality construction with versatility to fit most any bicycle frame at remarkably reasonable price. As good or better than more expensive brand.

As another reviewer noted, the nuts and bolts included are totally inadequate. They don't even give you enough nuts, and the bracket didn't really fit my bike. Be prepared to take a trip to the hardware store. Sort of ridiculous they couldn't get this easy step right.

I got this bike rack so that I could attach a rear basket to my bike. After six months, it has held up pretty well. It's obviously free from corrosion since it's made of aluminum, and the paint and "Planet Bike" sticker are still nearly intact. It's pretty strong for its size and won't yield if you jiggle it around. I've used it and the basket to carry several grocery bags full of food, making my grocery trips very convenient. (No more hanging grocery bags from my handlebars!)The only problem I had with it was during assembly. My bike doesn't have two holes on the back to attach the aluminum strips, and the adapter allowing you to add on those holes doesn't fit my bike. I had to buy a special adapter from the bike shop for $10. But overall, I highly recommend this product.

Research Pays Off,

I researched rear bike racks from the cheapest to the most expensive and settled on two of these Ecoracks at $30 each to add to our two 1975 vintage ten-speed bikes. My concern was that the racks would not fit, especially on my bike which has an very tall frame. These racks are classy in appearance, will support 55 pounds (more than others in this price range) and the sellers claim that the rack will fit 97% of frames is probably true. Our old bikes don't have attachment points up top, only the screw hole near the rear hub, but the racks came with generous extending adjustable arms which will easily reach my seat bolt, and with non-mar frame straps that will allow me to attach the rack without even bending the adjustment rails. There are extra bolts and lock nuts so almost any configuration can be arranged. The aluminum racks look great, are light weight, easy to install, strong, and they arrived three days early, well packaged. Would recommend them without hesitation.
