Thanks to other reviewers, I was alerted to a potential sizing problem. I contacted the company, Planet Dog, directly to get detailed measurements. Our 27lb terrier/aussie mix needed a MEDIUM because the neck would have been too tight on the SMALL as his collar size is 14". However, the chest strap is still a bit big for him even when tightened to the limit. His chest size is 22" (barrel of chest) but the MED harness sits back further on his body where he's much narrower. After all the effort trying to order the right size, it may just be that this is designed for dogs that are a different shape. If not for the fit, would be a 5 star product.

Neck: 8 to 14 inches
Barrel of the Chest: 16 to 26 inches
"T" piece that runs along the spine: 4 inches

Medium
Neck: 14 to 25 inches
Barrel of the Chest: 22 to 34 inches

Large
Neck: 18 to 37 inches

We purchased the large apple green harness, leash, and collar. My puppy, husband, and I all love them! The fleece is super comfortable. We were able to make it small enough to fit Hunter now (at 45 lbs), and later (at 90 lbs) :) Hunter knows that when the harness comes out, its time for a walk and he gets very excited. One note, I have yet to use the collar. If you purchase the harness, I doubt you would need both.

I have a VERY stubborn Olde English Bulldogge that would fight me every time when it was time to come in from outside - pulling out of her collar and getting loose! This product saved us BOTH a lot of heartache! With this I have a handle to hold on to her! It is so comfortable that she wears it all the time. I LOVE it!

this harness is wonderful, but buy it only for its intended use as an alternative to a collar. if i had bothered to do some research when i first bought this, i would have found there are "Dog Car/Truck Safety Harnesses" that are more aptly designed for use in a car.

i purchased this item to keep my dog safer during the long haul in the car for the holidays. it worked well and she didn't seem to mind being buckled in.
as i understand it, the seatbelt strap goes through the cushioned loop in the harness on her back and then buckles back into the seat as normal. wouldn't have minded a photo instruction guide to see if i was doing it right.
your dog might seem a bit awkward at first, and the seatbelt looks kind of strange, stretched out to wherever she's laying on the backseat, but mine (a lab mix) eventually figured out how to lay comfortably and was ok through the entire ride.

if you are looking to buy this harness as an alternative to a collar and leash, yes, it works but i'll say that i think she's happier with it than i am, since the lack of choke or pressure on her neck gives her no reason to stop pulling... so walking her turns into a bit more of a sled-dog activity.

anyways, the harness is wonderfully soft and seems quite durable as well. happy with it.

I just ordered this harness for my Daschund along with the matching leash. It is sooo soft. I was hesitant at first because another reviewer complained of a smell because of the hemp. I just got mine there is absolutely no smell whatsoever. I have been trying to find a harness and have gone to every pet store in the neighborhood. Ive had to return each one either because it didnt fit or because the material was too rough for her. I took this out of the box slipped it right on and it fit perfect! I do agree with another reviewer. This must run big because all other harnesses my dog is usually a medium (she measures 21 inches around her breast)..I went by the other reviewer and ordered a small instead of a medium and im glad i did. Im am so pleased with this product

My 11 month old dog managed to break the clip of the hemp harness within 15 minutes, ran in the road, got hit by a car , broke her back & we had to put her down. Beware, I would hate for the same thing to happen to anyone else.

This was a nice product with one flaw that I could not get past: the smell. I tried hand washing it with detergent, but the smell (probably from the hemp) still lingered and would transfer to my dog's fur and my hands.

I had to return it because I couldn't get past the smell. Other than that, I have no complaints. It was a pretty color, I had no problems fitting it on my dog, and my dog did not mind have it on.

We are very happy with this harness. I wish I had ordered the green or orange one... but other than the purely aesthetic consideration, it has proved to be really soft, easy to put on, resistant to our dog's strong pulling. When we got the harness out of its box (by the way, it arrives perfectly packaged, brand new) we gasped because it looked enormous. Thank goodness, there is a lot of room to shorten/lengthen it: had we to buy another one, we would order a small size though. (Our dog is a medium-size dog, Corgi-Golden Retriever mix, 24 pounds.) So far it has not faded. The item comes from a company in America, and an ad says that part of the profits go to some good animal-loving cause: yet (alas) the item is made in China. It is very well built: no ugly defects. Perfectly stitched.
It is a great harness, its major pro being its extreme softness. It stays on in a safe way, holding the dog around the neck and the chest. A full A+.

We have one dog that is a pretty good walker and another dog that PULLS!!! We like to call her tank! These harnesses have made walking the two of them a delight. The soft fleece on the inside protects their skin from iritation and the harnesses are sturdy. We ordered mediums for both of our dogs. Both are mixed breeds, one weighs approx 40lbs and the other approx. 60lbs. We were able to adjust the medium to fit both of them securely.

Both of ours have the plastic clasp instead of the metal clasp, and I actually prefer it. We originally had one of each, but the design on the one with the metal clasp is not exactly the same. The harness with the metal clasp ended up breaking beause the piece that held the chest band in place on the top broke. We exchanged it for the plastic one and have not had any issues since.

Item was just as described. Well made, and very comfortable and soft for my dog! I will say they seem to run big though, I got a medium for my pug, which is normally the size that fits her, but I had to adjust this one as small as it would go, and she still has room. I think a small would have worked. Other than that it is great!
