The previous reviewer clearly purchased this product to just give her dog to play with unsupervised. Of course any aggressive chewer can chew the rope. Balls on a string or rope are designed for a couple of purposes. One purpose be to make it easier to throw the ball further during a game fetch. Another purpose would be to build prey drive in your working dog. A final purpose would be for a reward during training. In all three intended uses, the dog is supervised and is not just given the ball to go run off with and chew. If you use this ball for its intended purpose, it is an excellent product!

My Labrador LOVED this ball, think the minty smell made him keep chewing when not fetching. The dog did not chew the rope, just kept squishing the ball in his mouth, liking the way air would rush through. While doing so the rope inside disconnected, seemed glued? The rope did not last an hour. I mistakenly thought the rope went all the way through the ball.

Even with the rope gone, he still likes to play with the ball although due to the raised lettering it will not roll in a straight line but he seems to think that is fun. Maybe because it is his newest toy??

I just am disappointed as this was not a cheap toy and should have remained intact beyond an hour.

I love Orbee toys.

Dogs love them.
Excellent material. It's fairly durable but not hard plastic.
Not meant to be a chew toy, will not tolerate endless chewing from power chewers, but it's not meant to be a chew toy. These things are really quite durable, I've had some of these for a long time, they've been left in the sun for years, I've found them buried in the backyard, and they're still pliable, well loved, and good as new.

In a recent study, an Orbee was the ONLY toy tested found to be non-toxic.

I do not have this particular Planet Dog ball, but I have several others. I love them, and they work well even as unsupervised toys for my Standard Poodle who has torn up lots of toys--including a Planet Dog ball that was too small a size for him. I also avoid any of the Planet Dog balls with ridged parts such as the word "Fetch" here, because his balls are for him to have to himself.

However, this is a ball meant for interaction between human and dog, not for unsupervised play.

Okay, here's what I need to tell ya! I LOVE that the great Planet Dog balls have holes in opposites sides of the ball. Get the RIGHT kind of rope (braided nylon rope from the hardware store, not expensive at all, and when you cut a piece, seal the ends with a short time with a match), put it through the holes, make it exactly the length you want.

This rope is inexpensive. The rope is likely to wear out long before the ball does. And you will very often want a different length of rope. Believe me, it is easy to replace that rope, and not expensive. Quite often, you need an exact length for whatever task you want to do with a ball-on-a-rope. It has been a powerful tool for me through the years. All you need to do the rope is the right rope, a pair of scissors, and some good matches! Go for it!

I notice this ball has kind of a complicated tie. Try this instead. Outside one hole on the ball, tie enough simple slip knots in the rope that the overall knot will be big enough not to slip through the hole. Thread the unknotted end of the rope through the ball and out the other hole. Get the rope the length you want, and tie a simple loop handle for you on the other end. One way to tie that is fold the rope and tie a slip knot in the double layer. This rope is a bit slippery, so don't get too fancy with your knots unless you study up on them!

I had the previous Orbee-Tuff Fetch ball and it lasted for two years with a chewy German Shepherd. I was disappointed with this model as the rope cord came apart where the two ends of the cord were fused within a week of presenting it to my dog. I made another loop for the ball and it serves its purpose, but not up to par with the previous model.

I have a boxer pit mix and she's 18 months old. This is the only type of ball that I have purchased that she has not chewed in half. Absolutely love it and would recommend to whoever owns a larger breed dog.

It's a little to big to fit in my pocket for easy training, and he rope came apart in less then 30 days.
