Planet Earth Interactive DVD Game is a wonderful learning game for the entire family. I played it with kids from 5 to 15 and everyone enjoyed it. The photography is awesome, it moves as fast as you want it to, and the puzzle is an added benefit. I highly recommend this game.

My son and I just finished playing this game for about 10 minutes and the same question about sea snakes was asked at least 5 times. The company's website is pretty lame. There are only two FAQs and they are both about another game. I'm going to try contacting the company at this email address to see if I can get some help[...].
The website provides an option to return a game.....if you live in Australia

I paid $[...] for this game... what a disappointment. The second time we played it it repeated questions that it had asked in the first game. By the third time we played it we had to keep taking our turns over and over to avoid the questions that we already had in the 1st & 2nd games. You'd think they could put enough questions on this so that they didn't repeat themselves just the SECOND time we played. I am very disgusted... so much for learning a lot when you play... I guess we'll just be answering the same questions over and over. Other than that the pictures are really cool.

Hey, all those people complaining about the sea snake - why don't you email the manufacturer before you mouth off about it on Amazon. Yes the manufacturer acknowledged that one particular batch of this game had a bug, apparently it was only related to one particular chip inside a number of cheaper brands of DVD players (you can't test for everything). This bug is apparently invoked when you press stop twice and then resume the game - so the solution is to stop mashing the buttons and be patient with the game. All DVD technology is dicey at the best of times. I think if you see repeat questions you should eject the disk. Turn your DVD player off for a moment or two to clear the memory. Then re-insert the disk and start playing again - you *should* receive a new batch of questions. Remember DVD players have less memory than a nokia phone - it's a miracle these things actually work.
Complaints about the questions being too easy, or not educational enough are quite bizarre. The game is obviously meant for kids and families to play together. If there aren't a few easy ones in there you're never going to get to the goal. There's literally 100s of questions on the disk, so I find it hard to believe the complaints about repeat questions. Considering this game plays on you regular DVD play, it's actually pretty good, my kids love it. To all the people who complain about this game - go play mario-kart. It's a DVD game dudes, it cost $20 - what do you expect?

We got this for our daughter, and sat down to play it this evening. Though the nature footage is impressive, this is absolutely the worst question and answer game I have ever played. Educational? Hardly. Some examples. It asks the player--True or False--if a salamder lives to be 120. No is the correct answer--only 80. So, what's the point? It's old--but not quite that old? Next question, and this time multiple choice. Some monkey dives "regularly" to a certain depth for some kind of food. The choices: 6.5 feet, 8 feet, or 8.5 feet. The answer: 6.5 feet. Again--what have we learned here? Anything? And one must question if this answer is actually true. But the next question made me want to quit playing the game. Another multiple choice, we were asked the length of the blue whale. The player answered correctly (98 feet); but the chap on the DVD announced that the correct answer was 49 feet! Who created this game? They should be ashamed of themselves.

If you loved Planet Earth for the effort and detail put into it, you're going to be really disappointed with this game.,

To win the game you just have to be the last person to get a puzzle piece and the puzzle itself isn't really connected to the dvd questions. Questions are quickly repeated in the game and there are huge discrepencies in the level of difficulty of the questions. One question will ask you where the south pole is and the next question will ask you the maximum dormancy period of a parasitic fungus in a tropical species of ant. Also some questions are frustratingly vague as in "what is this lynx looking for?" Considering the wealth of information in the Planet Earth series there should be more than 25 or so questions and with options to vary the degree of difficulty.

My son, who is almost 14, is into skateboarding, punk music, and girls and he begs to play this game. It is fun and interesting for my husband and I and we are having fun trying to outsmart each other! I would recommend this for families as well as for educators!! What a refreshing change from the typical no brainer family games!!

I really really wanted to love this game. I have the Planet Earth book and DVD collection and thought the game would be a fun addition. Sadly the game doesn't really satisfy. I had to return the first game I bought because after playing it twice the questions all started to repeat. The replacement copy I got was almost as bad. Questions repeated after the 3rd game and then it would just get stuck and keep asking the same sea snake question over and over again.
I really had high hopes for this game and was very disappointed and wouldn't recommend it.

My husband and I had thought about getting this game for several months, so when we saw it on sale for $19.99, we bought it. We played the game for about 30-40 mins, just him and I. It asks you questions and when you get one right, you earn puzzle pieces. Whoever earns the last piece of the puzzle, wins. Putting the puzzle together isn't neccessary to play. While plalying, we were asked the same questions more than once, which is ridiculous for a brand new game if you ask me. The answers to the questions were pretty obvious and therefore, the game was boring and pretty unchallenging. I'm definitely taking this game back. I agree about it being a good educational toy for a classroom, I guess. Game only gets two stars because it has educational value, otherwise...ZERO

It's a good thing we have more than one DVD player in our house. On the first machine we tried, the left and right arrow buttons would not work on the game menu, preventing us from moving between question categories and effectively eliminating about half of the questions from the game. Yet these buttons worked for other menus on the DVD.
When we switched to another DVD player, the remote worked normally. Unfortunately, the glitches did not stop. The second machine got stuck on a single question about sea snakes that repeated again and again. We had to take out and reinsert the disc to restore a relatively random order to the questions. We finally got the disc to work, and my wife and sons and I did enjoy the game. The photos and videos are beautiful, and assembling the small jigsaw puzzle was fun -- the first couple of times. However, the game's questions are mostly of the numerical kind (asking players to guess how many or what percent), which gets old after a while and really doesn't teach very much. The game has limited merit overall and proved frustrating to play because of the technical problems. |
