I can't believe I'm the first to write a review on this gem here. The music was intended to support the beautiful imagery of the acclaimed BBC series Planet Earth and perhaps did not attract much attention to itself. You simply cannot really appreciate this music when it is drowned by images and narration. But listening to it as I did on a good headphone system, which really supports a concentrated listening effort, makes for a great musical experience. Sonically awesome and musically outstanding, this is trademark Fenton, sure enough, with broad orchestral sweeps and clever modulations. But even if your musical tastes do not care much for soundtracks, you owe it to yourself to get hold of this cd. It does not get much better than this.

I cant believe they left out the best song on the show, when the flowers are opening on the saguaro cactus in the deserts one and the same song plays in the rain forest when the tree falls to the ground and everything else starts to grow...someone find the name to that song please

I ordered this after watching about four minutes of the Planet Earth production in a department store, and after hearing the soundtrack there is little need to see the remainder for the music tells the story so evocatively. The depth of emotion asserts itself from the rich harmonies, while the orchestral colour illustrates the detail of the picture. This is the consummate score for a story about our planet.

The documentary was a lovely artistic feat. When watching it, I closed my eyes and heard the music. I fell in love with it then.

I decided to buy this CD, and I do not regret a single penny of that purchase. The music is sweeping, varied, and powerful. Some pieces, like The Wolf and The Caribou, stand out as amazing works. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who wants to listen to beautiful music.

The Planet Earth soundtrack is one of the largest I own, (and I have about 15 including some other documentary soundtracks) and even then they couldn't fit every bit of music onto two discs! This is an amazing soundtrack and it really helped support the incredible visuals from the series.

George Fenton is definitely one of the best documentary composers around. Along with Life in the Freezer and The Blue Planet, this is some of his best work, highly recommended!

This is without a doubt, one of my favorite soundtracks I have ever owned! I listen to it constantly and it is the only music that can put me to sleep within 10 minutes if I am laying down. Each track is very diverse and is incredibly well-composed.

After we watched the Planet Earth series in our homeschool my children asked for this soundtrack. They really enjoy listening to this music. Glad I was able to get it for a reasonable price.
