4.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the poor reviews June 16, 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you're a fan of axe-shredding and are curious to hear how fast it gets, this is your disc. No, Michael Angelo Batio cannot construct the musical masterpieces of Joe Satriani, but who can? Angelo is an okay songwriter in his own right (listen to the title track). Angelo and fellow fretboard wizard Shawn Lane are the world's fastest guitarists (faster than Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, and Michael Romeo, and those guys are FAST). Not only is Angelo fast, but every note he plays is clear. You'd swear a machine was playing this music, but it's in fact a man. Amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars The master of Speed! December 19, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Michael Angelo is the undisputed king of speed. If you don't believe me, check out "time traveler". The review titled "scrappy" is a little innaccurate. Michael's style is to play fast; that is what he does. If you listen to the songs themselves, not including the solos, you will find that Michael creates some very great music. "Planet Gemini" and "Far Reaches of Space" being primary examples. Michael has achieved a level of technical proficiency that not very many have. His speed is impressive, but what is even more impressive is his accuracy. I have seen him on video and he is for real. If you love prog-type music with supersonic solos that will leave breathless, check out this album. He amazes me everytime I listen. [url] has all of his solo cds. He is the king of speed!

5.0 out of 5 stars A true shred masterpiece August 23, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Michael Angelo Batio is a master of vast musical epics. He plays with no boundaries on "Planet Gemini," a recording you will want to play over and over again. I really enjoyed it from the first listen and never get tired of it. If you are familiar with such guitarists as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and John Petrucci of Dream Theater, you will probably be blown away by Michael's high speed thrill rides on the fretboard. Michael is known as one of the fastest, most innovative and outrageous guitarists in the world, and he certainly proves it on this album. Not only with highly technical sweep arpeggios played at blazing speeds and fast picking runs that you have to hear to believe, but compositional aspects reminiscent of the great classical composers. I kid you not when I say prepared to be blown away. Top picks: Time Traveler, Jam Game, and pretty much every instrumental on this cd. You won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Under appreciated great guitar player April 13, 2007
By Vinny
Format:Audio CD
The idiot who wrote that Michael is "something like 50". So what? This guy can play and fly. No he is not just running down scales. The guy is a monster guitar player. He is UNBELIVABLE. Not only speed but melody in his tunes. All his CD's are great and have tunes. I love speed monster like Yangeiew, Vinnie, Howe but Michael music and solos have beauty it reminds me my other favorite guitar player Schenker who might not be fast but has beautiful and melodic solos. I am a 50 year old guitar player and

age has no barrier for talent or anything else, an artist is an artist. Don't miss out on this guy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Michael Angelo Batio is an awesome technician... April 17, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
was largely overlooked in the late 1980s. Whatever one thinks of this guy's music, he is an amazing guitarist and a genuinely nice guy. I can say this with all certainty because I had the pleasure of interviewing him at a bar in western MA in 1990 when I was in college. I'm making a point of stressing this largely because one reviewer contends that Michael Angelo Batio is behind the times, but in reality he was on the scene during the height of the shred movement of the 1980s and early 1990s.

To be clear, I am a huge fan of the Shrapnel guys-- Paul Gilbert, Tony MacAlpine, and Greg Howe in particular. Although I share the opinion of one negative reviewer that Gilbert, Moore, and many other 80s shredders play with more flair than Michael Angelo Batio, I don't believe this criticism to be fair. Flair, style, feel, or whatever we're calling it these days are so incredibly subjective that one should always take such criticisms with a grain or perhaps a boulder of salt. In fact, Joe Satriani's genius has always been lost on me. I always felt that Satriani's music was sterile (the ONE exception for me is Not of this Earth) and lacked the "feel" of Paul Gilbert (with Racer X), Tony MacAlpine, Greg Howe, or Yngwie Malmsteen (with Alcatrazz through his first 3 solo albums). Of course, I'm aware that 7 out of 10 guitarists would actively disagree with me and I respect that. But my inability to appreciate Satriani's work diminishes neither Satriani as a musician nor me a listener/guitarist. It just means, Satriani's "guitarmanship" does not speak to me, period. The above applies to some of the negative reviewers here as well.

Michael Angelo is indisputably a virtuoso guitarist.
